To lose weight, count your calories.
Dietary fat does not equal body fat, and dietary fat is good for you. You gain body fat from eating more energy (calories) than your body needs to maintain itself at its current weight. If you consume more energy than your body can use, it is stored as fat. To lose weight, you need to eat fewer calories than your body needs to maintain itself. MFP will assign you an appropriate calorie goal if you give it the appropriate information.
If you have less than 15 lbs to lose 0.5 lbs/week is ideal
If you have 15 -25 lbs to lose 0.5 to 1.0 lbs/week is ideal
If you have 25-40 lbs to lose 1 lbs/week is ideal
If you have 40-75 lbs to lose 1.5 lbs/week is ideal
If you have 75+ lbs to lose 2 lbs/week is ideal0
