Any pregnant women with lifting experience?

So I've done some lifting (mostly light stuff) before I became pregnant, but I'd like to start again. I am in my second trimester. Some say no heavy lifting, others say it's ok as long as you don't go too heavy and work your way up. I don't know any women who lift weights, so is there anyone out there with some experience or advice on this? I want to be able to do weighted squats, lunges, etc. What do you all think?

Please please consult your doctor before starting any new exercise.
I was lifting before I was pregnant with my youngest son, so I continued to lift (clear up until the day I delivered). I was doing mostly upper body things towards the end of my pregnancy, though.
If anything, I wouldn't try anything *too* new or too heavy at this point. Increasing weight wouldn't be terrible, but verrrrrrrrrry slowly.
But, again, talk to your doctor about this before starting anything.0 -
I'll be talking to my midwife in a few days, but I was hoping for some more specific advice. Could you tell me what exercises you did and at what weight? I would surely work up to it.0

I just do light weights 20lbs or so,and walking. (2-4 miles) Which was about what I did before I got pregnant. The thing at this point is to not strain your body, if you are used to it, great, if its new i'd wait until after.0

I am 14 weeks pregnant and I haven't stopped lifting. I have 2 coaches that help though, so I am in in very good hands. I am not trying for 1RM or even putting too much strain on my body. I'm allowed to miss two lifts before my coach says we've done enough for the day. I used to power clean #135 and I'm down to 125#, with similar news with squats and snatches. DLs are staying strong, so I'm happy about that.
This is my 1st pregnancy, so I'm in the same boat that I know no one that has experience with this, but I'm trusting myself and my Dr gave her approval to be doing what I was doing before, but to listen to my body. And not to hold my breathe too long in those lifts, which just messes everything up.
I have great days and bad days, so I just go with how I feel. People may judge my choices, but I truly believe in a healthy momma is a healthy baby. I would never do anything to put my child at risk, but I still love me a good workout.0 -
While I'm not currently pregnant, I do have 3 children. My track coach put me on a lifting program when I was in high school to try and help me gain strength (I threw discus) and I have been lifting ever since (almost 20 years). I lifted while pregnant with all of my children until the day I delivered. Some days are more difficult than others. Try not to get defeated. I would not start anything new that you haven't already done while pregnant. Your limbs are too pliant while pregnant and you could seriously injure yourself if you're not comfortable with the movement of a particular lift. Go slowly.0
