tracking iron?

Anyone have any tips or tricks on how to properly track iron consumption in the diary?

I just realized the database is wildly off. For example, one 325 mg iron sulfate tablet taken three times per day only supplies 195 mg of elemental iron per day, not 3 x 325 (which it logs as 3 x 361??).

I'm thinking of not entering my iron supplements and just tracking food-related iron.

Does anyone with iron-deficiency have any insight?

Thanks.
Nadja

My thoughts? Tracking it is only slightly useful as we all absorb iron differently. A blood test for hemoglobin, ferritin and iron saturation is what matters at the end of the day. I could take iron tablets hourly and still be anemic ( I have struggled with anemia for four years) because they upset my digestion so badly that I don't absorb them very well

One of the best iron tablets to me is: Floradix Iron Tablets.

It also comes in liquid and is plant based..

    What is Floradix?

Floradix is a plant-based liquid gluconate supplement, a highly absorbable form of iron. It also contains various B vitamins and vitamin C to enhance absorption and herbal extracts to increase digestion. Additional fruit juices help to balance stomach acidity.

Many Floradix customers do not experience the side effects of other iron supplements such as constipation or diarrhea. It is gentler on the body and often fast-working, which the makers claim is due to its being plant-based. Care should be taken from parents as children can overdose on iron. A child under the age of 12 should take smaller doses.

Check out Amazon or do a web search to find the cheapest price.

As a non-meat eater this is the only iron supplement I take, others make me constipated.
