Restaurant Cals vs Home Cals

I was looking at this http://www.sparkpeople.com/blog/blog.asp?post=what_does_300_calories_look_like earlier. To me, it looks like restaurants prepare their foods differently somehow, given the difference in what a home made omlet/veggie burger versus a restaurant omlet/veggie burger look like.
What in the world is the difference? Anyone know or want to take a gander at it. This is especially puzzeling with the veggie burger, since it looks like the exact same food. I can see the omlet (egg whites/beef), but IDK. Are restaurant foods made with "extras"? Is it a conspiracy between restaurants and big pharma/big medicine/doctors/fitness centers/gyms/exercise equipment makers/fitness traingers/etc to fatten us up?
(yeah...in case you're wondering, this is only a halfway serious post. )
