Hey! Kinda new to this whole thing but thought I'd give it a shot as it's my last resort to helping me lose weight.
I'm really struggling to lose weight at the moment because of
1) I have a knee injury that requires physiotherapy
2) I have zero motivation, I have spurts of motivation but if I don't see improvement within a week then I get disappointed and give up, HELP!
3) I have fairly large boobs and I've lost weight in the past but they haven't decreased, they make it hard to exercise too!
4) I've noticed that if I exercise and diet I put weight on, so I think what's the point?
Don't know what to do anymore, all I want is to have the nice figure that my friends all have!

1) Calorie deficit is for weight loss. I lost my first 20 during an intense physio program for bulging discs in my neck
2) You will have good and bad weeks at the scale. That is reality. Water retention after exercise is common. Water retention during PMS is common. You cannot allow these things to derail you. Weigh every week or two, use a measuring tape monthly, and take pictures monthly
3) Strap those puppies down! I am pretty sure I would get a black eye if I didn't (maybe not, but it does hurt a lot to let them bounce)
4) The scale is not your best measure of success (see #2)
Enter your information into MFP, eat back 50-75% of your exercise calories. Be honest and realistic about your activity level and your goals (few people are sedentary, the less you have to lose, the slower it should come off, so you should be getting more than 1200 calories per day, this helps make it sustainable). Best of luck :flowerforyou:0 -
1. There are plenty of exercises you can do without a knee. Right now, I'm exercising without one of my arms which had surgery not long ago.
2. Motivation comes from within. Vocalize your motivation in the mornings (i.e. look in the morning and say out loud "Today is going to be different. Today I am going to meet at least two goals. Today I am going to eat healthy."
3. I have huge boobies (48G). They get in the way of everything. I don't lose out of them either. My ultimate goal is go get below 200 so I can have them reduced, but plastic surgeons do not do reduction on heavy patients, so that's one of my big goals. Set goals.
4. Exercise builds muscle, so you may actually weigh more after exercising a lot more. The scale is not a tell all.
You can do this girl.0 -
Thank you for your feedback I appreciate it! At the moment I'm 11 stone and I'm 5ft 6 and my boobs really do weigh me down, feel like they are too big for my body and I feel they add more to my weight than what I should be, but I feel really embarrassed about going to see my doctor about it! How do I even go about having that conversation?0

... but I feel really embarrassed about going to see my doctor about it! How do I even go about having that conversation?
Either (1) go to a female doctor if you makes you feel more comfortable talking, or (2) you just do it. Embarassment is all in you, they have seen and heard things way worse than you could ever come up with and it wont phase them one bit. Start out by saying "Hey, my back has been killing me lately, and honestly I think my chest size is part of the problem. I have been thinking I might consider a breast reduction, but was wondering what you thought?". You can also tell the nurse instead when you make the appointment or when they are taking your blood pressure - ask her to write it in your chart, so he will read it before he comes in and HE can start the conversation. And so what if you are embarassed? Its not like you will be seeing him anywhere but the 20 minutes you are in his office, so just suffer through it and it will be over before you know it.
Honestly, its a whole lot easier than having a conversation and/or exam for something like hemorroids, but people have to do that all the time.0 -

I agree, just ask. As a nurse, you would be surprised what types of information people are willing to share with me (and that includes stuff that is irrelevant and not asked for). It won't phase your doctor in the least.0 -

See I live in the uk and read that breast reduction is possible on the nhs but only if it's needed and I feel like I'm going to get laughed at but I do think I need it! Get awful back and shoulder pains and my self esteem and image with them is just rock bottom0 -
I am not sure about the NHS coverage requirements, but in Canada, ongoing back and shoulder issues is enough for it to be covered. Your doc shouldn't laugh at you anyway. He may say it isn't medically necessary, but that would at least open the door for discussions. One thing that I find helps a lot is getting quality bras. They can help in reducing some of the load by distributing the pressure better. They cost more, but well worth it.0

My knees were SHOT in Jan. Get water therapy if you're not. When you've got some motion do weight machines, gradually! It will build strength. Tell the gym whats up. A good trainer will show u the right machines. Re "the girls", friend me? You have to giv it a lot more than a week: work on it for a month. If you see no progress, hunt me down and kill me. You got this! We all do!0

Same idea- I have knee surgery second summer . Gain weight after first one and now have to loose 35 ibs . If I exersice and diet- then only it works. Just exersice- gain more muscles and fat. Now I can't do much. So trying to keep around 1200 cal a day. Stretch what I can:)) , some walking ( don't even count it as exercise ( good luck. I guess, the key is in motivation...if you feel the spirit to get in shape- it will work. Tell PT that you need to get on shape- they are good in creative activities:))0

I have been there more than you would know!
1...breasts, they suck! I finally bucked up and made an appointment for a breast reduction. You have to remember that isn't anything to be embarrassed about, and doctors have heard far crazier things. For the insurance companies here in the states if you have a medical need it is covered. That was based on have back/shoulder pain and downward facing nipples. The surgery was one of the best things I ever did for myself! I urge you to talk to your dr!
2....damn knees, joints, etc. I had surgery on my foot and a tendon. It kept me from walking and I am still rehabbing it. I was so depressed through parts that I gained back way to much weight and am now the heaviest ever. You have to focus on what you can do. Core work and arms. Can you do any swimming? Just a thought.0 -
Couple of things I've learnt is that it takes patience and persistance to reach your goals. The changes you make need to be a lifestyle change not just a short term diet otherwise the weight will just come back on, so a week isn't long enough.
Speak to your physio in regards to exercises you can do with your knee injury, they should be able to help.0 -
You can definitely get the breast reduction done on the NHS. It's affecting your ability to exercise and your getting back pain etc. no one will laugh at you I promise, it's a very very common problem and your GP will have seen it umpteen times before.
Try and focus on one thing at a time. For me it would be rehabbing your knee, if you don't exercise it now your supporting muscles will weaken and you end up with a worse problem. Your physio should help with this.
Meanwhile lock up your scales if they demotivated you, eat at a moderate calorie deficit and things should start to improve for you.0 -
Thanks I'll ask my GP and see what he says, hopefully can get something sorted out and if I can't then looks like I'm stuck with them!0
