youtube videos say cardio for belly fat!

I've seen soooo many videos on youtube and they all say to do cardio for a flat belly, even the guy from the scooby site. Is this tru? All I want is a flat belly, nothing else. I'm already fit except my 3 inch fat pooch :(

I'd be interested to hear the answer to this too.

the general impression I get from here is that it's more about strength training - but I've seen youtube videos suggest cardio too... which seems odd...

As a note on youtube videos: They also have videos that claim the world is ruled by cats, and we should bow down and worship them, so you might want to take them with a grain of salt. Cardio and weightlifting in combination is my understanding from the forums here as to what works.

Complicated, very complicated, first, it is true that cardio makes you lose weight faster, there was a study where 3 groups where divided: weight training only, weight training and cardio, pure cardio, the cardio group showed that cardio was the better for weight losing, now we have another different fact, muscle is heavier than fat and since it is a lean tissue it requires more aliments, having little muscle might interfere in somebody´s goal of weight loss, but for this case that person would be lifting only.

Now, weight loss as we humans know it and has study it for so many years now is NOT about workout, it is about calorie consume, 1 calorie is the quantity of energy required for boiling one gram of water, so if no calories, no fat gaining, if you get thrown in a dungeon and get fed with 3 cups of white or brown rice daily, plus 1 portion of tofu, plus 1 cookie in middle afternoon, plus water, plus, 1 sausage per meal time, you will end up skinny and furthermore sallow (that word exist right?).

Then without a single miles, without a push up you can well lose weight.

There are some men who workout (and in) a lot, professionally, yet the 75% of them are overweight, they're strongman competitors, they do long series and repetitions with monstrous weights and grow humungous arms and calves, cause they aren't probably watching their feed and also cause for the sport where they master strength is the key, not velocity or long time cardiovascular resistance.

Anyway non-exactly workout routines can get you shredded, these combine cardio (not jogging, no biking, no hiking) but elemental simple exercises like: walk stairs, sit up and down, lunge, pull a rope, burpee (combination of push up, sits and jerk stretching), but at the end they are cardio, then if you wanna lose your belly I recommend you: start running, 2 and a half miles on a daily basis, non-stopping (consult your physician first please), stick to a good feeding and/or go to a gym for functional training no crossfit or px90)but a personalized workout that includes natural movements and continuous heart pumping.

One more time ma'am, for weight lose you can recur to cardio, but fot a fit tight tummy with onion skin then some serious cardio AND resistance training will be needed for increase mass in all your body.

Message me if you need something more about this diatribe.

The only thing you can do is lose more fat, which will come off all of your body, not just your stomach. You lose the fat the same way you've lost your other fat. However, you can do abdominal muscle exercises to build your muscles there so that when you lose your fat you have a"flatter" stomach.

Not sure if this is relevant but when I was healthy as a kid I was underweight but still had a belly that never wanted to go away. Answer for me was to eat a bit more protein and workout my upper body a bit. I was never able to land a six pack but it got much flatter when my chest and back got a little stronger.

It does take all three - diet, weight-training, and cardio. But it's so easy to out-eat one's workout, so diet has to be right up there. That caloric deficit is best achieved through the combo of diet and exercise, so that one isn't totally starving, and that one isn't working out all day to make up for eating too much in general. There's a sweet spot in there that will generate results for one.
Last but not least, for many people, the stomach is the last place that loses fat, since it comes from all over the body while losing it. The areas that are naturally leaner will show the loss first, while the fattier areas take longer.

Cardio, or more specifically, a caloric deficit will help you lean out to expose muscle you have. This is why strength training is important because as you lose, it helps you maintain muscle that you do have, so that you lose mostly fat, rather than fat and muscle. If you're already very lean, it may not be realistic to lose more as you would become underweight or uber hangry, so you may have to build some more muscle/fat (bulk) then lean out again (cut) to expose your newly increased muscle mass

Youtube videos say a lot of things. I watched a "documentary" on YT once explaining how Earth was originally colonized by aliens, and items like the Pyramids were built by them and left as signal beacons for them to one day return to.
I saw a video of a cat playing the piano too.

My point...don't believe everything that's claimed in Youtube videos.

Do not speak poorly of our Alien overlords, they get pissy when you do that....

Calorie deficit for fat loss, heavy lifting and caloric surplus for building enough muscle to appear toned.

Flat belly to me means both sufficient muscle to look fit and have the skin taut as well as low enough bodyfat to see it.

Cardio is good for cardiovascular fitness and for calorie burning which can help you create a calorie deficit to lose bodyfat while still getting to eat a fair amount of food. That said cardio isn't necessary, you could just eat less and not be as cardiovascularly fit. The muscle comes from lifting and eating enough to not be at deficit and I'd say that is more important to "flat belly" than cardio.

I'd say fat first muscle later, but thats personal choice.

For fat loss caloric deficit is all you need, cardio can help with that but it isn't necessary.

You lose through calories in Vs calories out

You can't choose where the fat will come off, your horomones decide that.
Weight loss is weight loss! ;)

So belly fat, back fat, ect.... there is no spot treatment, your body will take fat off from wherever the hell it wants! =)

I for one welcome our alien overlords.

I don't know about this . . . When we welcomed our alien overlords back in the 1980s, one of them went on to become Freddy Krueger. Scary.
