Vinyasa yoga

Good morning, hope you can help me. Iv just started to follow a 33minute vinyasa yoga routine at home, it's intense impact and it definitely makes me work hard and brings out a big sweat!! I have been trying to record It to my exercise blog but I can't find it, there is only one type of yoga and it's very low in calories. I have researched that 30 minutes would burn approx 200 calories but I would have to log it as around an hour and a half of cardio exercise if I put it as yoga on MFP. Do people just do that?
Thanks xx
Thanks xx

Do people manipulate the calorie section of workouts? Yes. Continued success with yoga and your goals.0

After you enter the time for the exercise, click in the box where the calories are shown. You can change that number as well.0

Before assuming that it is incorrect, you may want to get a HRM. You don't want to over estimate your calorie burn.0

Thanks, yes a HRM sounds like a good idea. I would have thought that MFP would have the different types of yoga as they vary so much in calorie burn. MFP just has stretch yoga or hatha yoga which is the easiest type and will only burn approx 100 kcals in 30 mins, so there is a big difference with Vinyasa as it's more physically demanding. Thanks again0

I would watch your weight (up or down) over the next two or three weeks and adjust your yoga calorie burn accordingly; presuming your food intake and other activities remain about the same. You may not be burning quite so much as you would imagine.
I set my vinyasa style yoga to around 200 per hour, more intense Ashtanga at no more than 300, although it feels like I've burned more like 400! Yoga - especially vinyasa - generates internal heat which can be misinterpreted as calorie burn but it is not the same heat that is generated in a session of cardio.0 -
thanks, how often do you do your yoga workouts? I'm still confused as I have done lots of research and everything for vinyasa yoga comes out with between 400-500 kcal per hour, so I thoughts it was about right at 200kcal for my 33min work out? Shall I set it as 150kcal for half an hour then? Last time I did MFP it was under estimating my exercise calories and I lost a bit too much weight, being just under 8stone. I'm now 9 stones and want to get to 8.5 stones which is my 'happy weight'. So I'm not looking to loose a lot, although my motivation this time round is lacking!! I'm walking my dog every day, brisk pace for an hour and I'm doing the vinyasa yoga twice per week. I'm struggling to eat 1200 kcal per day but I'm trying. I'm usually about 100-200 over! Thanks0

I found a Vinyassa yoga calculation on another app, Calorie Calculator. I have no idea how accurate it is, though. Usually I just use the "Yoga" on the MFP list unless I do Bikram in which case I use a calculation from that same other app since the burn is WAY higher.0

Thank you.. I have just been on that and a few others, I'm happy that on average I burn around 200 calories. Some said more but I'm going to stick with 200. Looking forward to being half a stone lighter! Thanks for all your advice xx0

I did 30 minutes of vinyasa tonight. My HRM said 176 calories burned. I was sweating bullets.0
