Hi does anyone use these. My kids eat tons of yoghurt and I am concerned about the amount of rubbish in the yoghurt I buy them. Are these any healthier. I looke at them briefly yesterday but didn't have time to read properly (I had the kids with me). I have tried making yoghurt before and it didn't work.

    Hi,

In all honesty.....I don't know about healthier it would depend on the options available where you shop. But we have been making our own Yoghurt for years and it's advantages are slightly cheaper than commercial brands, a hellova lot fresher so they last longer, although by the sound of it that won't be an issue for you.

We started with Easiyo and then the Supermarket had a change to Hansells. We ended up getting 2 of the packages due to the better shape of the container, Hansells are squatter and easier to get out of the tub as it gets lower.

We have been devotees for years....Love it.

My hint would be go for full-fat greek style or natural blend the low fat is full of added sugars (and not necessarily the naturally occurring ones), it's alot thicker makes great substitute for sour cream in dips, stroganoffs (sp) whatever and we now 'play' with the flavours of ours to our hearts content and use it place of cream for desserts. Probably wouldn't work in cake filling but if you try:

Mix in vanilla bean paste with maple syrup/honey for a little added sweetness
Rum or any desired flavoured essence
Blend up fresh, defrosted (drained) berries of choice
Add in full fruit jam too if you fancy

and one of our favs is vanilla paste, maple syrup and orange zest with a dash of rum essence.....very nice :drinker:

I don't know for sure how healthy they are, but they don't have a load of stuff in them, and the yoghurt is live. The dried milk supposedly comes from cows that are free range and grass fed - I don't know if that gives any particular health benefits. I normally use the full-fat Greek Yoghurt, so I'm not so sure about the other ones. The other ones I've tried have tended to be too sweet for me.

It's fairly easy to make your own yoghurt, but I find the Easiyo convenient and I like the taste and texture. It works most of the time - not absolutely every time, although leaving it longer sometimes works if it hasn't set.

I do like the fruit toppings they do, but they are quite sugary.
