Probably because IIFYM is just eating like a normal person might while happening to hit your macro goals. It's not really a diet style in my mind. I just eat what I want.
    Flexitarians:
    a) eat whatever they want, just with less meat in it
    b) use a semi-formal meal plan to ensure adherence to a)
    c) enjoy labels

    IIFYM'ers:
    a) eat whatever they want, just more or less of it depending on goals
    b) use macro counting to ensure adherence to a)
    c) enjoy acronyms

One is just as much a "philosophy" as the other - i.e. not at all - but if you cite one you should cite the other.

I'm assuming there's more to the Flexitarian diet because what you describe wouldn't make much sense. You can gain a lot of (fat) weight even if you take out all meat from the diet.

IIFYM, while not without its faults, has rigid calorie, fat, and protein goals. It's as much a philosophy as the laws of thermodynamics are philosophies.

I'm not sure but I think "flexitarianism", used as a weight-loss diet, has a rigid calorie goal and limits on how often and how much meat you can eat. As for being philosophies, I'll leave that debate to the philosophers...

Eh? I find iifym to be fairly flexible. I have a protein goal and a fat goal and once those are met I let the rest fall where it may. I'm not sure I consider that rigid at all.

That's exactly what I do as well, and in my first post I mentioned that I consider fat and protein to be minimum goals to reach (while of course staying under the calorie limit).

However, as I understand it, the strict interpretation of the popular IIFYM method is to get as close to the macro numbers as possible without going over, and getting all numbers on target can be tricky. I could be wrong here and the actual IIFYM guideline may be much more flexible, and in that case I will be happy to be corrected. :)

But my main post was that unless you have hypertension and/or metabolic syndrome/issues, the IIFYM method (or whatever you call it) is the best approach. If you do have health issues, the DASH diet or Mediterranean diet are the ones to shoot for.

Well, I, for one, am outraged! OUTRAGED, I SAY!

    This insult will not stand.

    well.

I'd just like to say- you should be a flexitarian... in my kitchen... or my living room... or bed room... or wherever as long as it's in my house space.

secondly I thought Atkins came out with his book and big release in 1972?

You must be thinking of the old diet revolution. The new diet revolution came out in 2002.

Not to worry. Just wait it out in the closet. We'll make a full revolution and before you know it, we'll be right back at the beginning.

Yeah, eating at a calorie deficit while getting adequate macro and micro nutrients and not forcing yourself to eliminate anything just makes too much sense. Who would want to do that?

    But "Flexitarian" made the list...

    Flexitarian diet is awesome*!

    * ...with just a few modifications:
    1. Little meat? Ha! Lots of meat.
    2. 1500 calories? I nearly double this.
    3. 50g of protein? Maybe per meal. Let's make this 175g+.

And "Flexitarian" was just a term coined by an author trying to sell a diet book.

I'll continue to console myself with booze. 'Cause it fits my macros.

And, eff you, yes, yes, I do have a macro for alcohol.

I demand a ridiculously long, complex, and overly dramatic recount, with plenty of interviews featuring distraught bystanders.

And while you're at it, some ice cream. The good stuff.

Only if it fits in your macros ihad. If not, you are SOL.

I remember it like it was yesterday...

Sitting on the sidelines in gym class while the "two jocks" took turns picking people for their team.

    "I'll take MrM27 first"

    "Ok I got Sonofabeach14"
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    Would I ever get picked?

Would I EVER be as cool as those other guys?

I cried that night. I went home and I swore to myself that I'd never let my fat, unpopular, pimply face ever get into that position again.

And then it hit me. Like a slap to the face.

The lightbulb went off and I KNEW. I KNEW WHAT I NEEDED to transform myself into the lean, fit, popular athlete that would get picked FIRST every day forward.

Wow. That's cold man. Wouldn't it be better to just eat the pop tarts and leave it at that? Leaving rice cakes behind is...insulting.

Unless they're the sour cream and chive kind. Those are awesome as a vehicle for tuna.
