Hiya, I've been at this (weight loss) for about 10 days now, and I have a question about how to classify moderate vs. vigorous exercise on a stationary bike. I'm doing about 45 minutes of what I think is vigorous (at least it feels vigorous to me!). I'm also walking, and I can classify that by miles per hour, but feel I am just guessing when on stationary bike. Any input is appreciated! - Ken

If you think it was vigorous, log it as vigorous. Just be consistent, track your results, and modify your eating calories based on your results after several weeks .

Some folks say that anything over a heart rate of 138 is considered vigorous. I am not so sure about that though.

I use speed for my calculations. I use <12 MPH for 30 minutes as light effort. 12 - 15 MPH for 30 minutes as moderate effort. And >15 for 30 minutes as vigorous effort. At MY moderate level, my heart rate is anywhere from 130 to 160 which I believe is a good fat burn rate.
