HOW have I put weight on!?

Hi,

So over the past 6 weeks I have lose around half and inch/an inch in certain areas- but I have put weight on?! I have changed my eating habits and been increasing my exercise? I do like a drink but I wouldn't have thought it outweighed the amount of 'good' I have been doing!

I am also going on holiday in 16 days and I want to be under 10 stone (I am 10 st 5 lbs) now!

Any ideas besides cutting out alcohol?

The reason is either a medical conditon or too much food. Here is a place to start:

if you are losing inches but not weight then you are probably retaining water, nothing to worry about. its probably from the added exercise you incorporated in your routine

think of it this way, noone can physically see how much you weigh, but your losing inches so you look smaller which is visible. id prefer inches over pounds any day

Changes in your carb consumption can alter your water retention.
I have changed my eating habits

Changed them how? Plenty fall into a trap of thinking eating 'healthy' food will make them thinner than 'oh so naughty food', but you can get just as fat on granola, rice and bananas as you can on McDonalds.

You'd be very surprised at the high calorie content of alcohol, especially given that many of us never of just one drink. I found that my favourite pear cider was 240 cals a bottle. One a night, deficit ruined. Two a night, deficit seriously ruined.

Whiskey's not bad though, calorie-wise. Switch to whiskey. One measure.

But yeah, it's not mystery really. Assuming you've actually gained weight/fat (losing inches but the scale going up in a short amount of time, with drinking, I'm thinking the tape measure was in a different spot...) You took in more calories than you burned (you underestimated what you ate and overestimated your exercise, same as a lot of people do.) With more accurate logging - even the drink! - you'll get a better picture of what's going in.

I'm just going to repeat what you already said - cut out the alcohol. I was making room in my calorie allowance for my drinks, but my doctor told me to quit anyway. The scale started moving again as soon as I did. :flowerforyou:

Unless you are going to carry your scale on your back or a sign that tells everyone how much you weigh, no one will know that pesky number but you! I agree with the above poster, I would rather look slimmer and be happy with that than think the number is not where I want it. Read the sexy pants guide. 16 days is not a lot of time so I would just concentrate on having a fun holiday don't stress over that and come back with a new attitude of taking the time it is going to take to get to the goal you want to reach.

    ^^^^ this

when you start to exercise, your muscles store more glycogen, and glycogen is stored with water. This makes you heavier. This is totally healthy, and the weight gain is not fat, so it's a good thing. Loss of inches means that you've also lost fat, it just doesn't show on the scale because it's been offset by the water weight gain in your muscles. This is excellent progress, so keep it up. If you have a lot of fat to lose, then after a while the scale weight number will start going down as you lose more and more fat, because the water/glycogen gains only happen for a short time, but the fat loss keeps on going. If you only have a little fat to lose then completely ignore the scale and go by inch measurements and how your clothes fit and what you look like in the mirror.

Are you carefully counting every single calorie that you put into your body, every single day? If not then you may have miscalculated calorie consumption and accidentally ate more than you should have...even if it was from healthy foods.

If not, it could be water retention. Make sure you're weighing yourself first thing in the morning. Once I weighed myself in the evening after eating dinner and drinking 500ml of diet coke and I gained 5lbs of water weight...in the course of just one day.

Is this Kopparberg cider by any chance? They are so high calorie it's a joke :( I love them as well.

Kopparberg Pear! Love that stuff. Might have to factor in half a bottle but yeah. Total waste of calories, and if I was gonna waste calories, I'd waste 'em on cake :p
