"toning" is another word for losing fat around muscle tissue which exposes them. if your after building muscle, then eat at a calorie surplus and lift heavy weights, if your after a "toned" look, then eat at a deficit to lose fat and lift heavy to preserve muscle. a bike would also preserve muscle since you are using your leg muscles but lifting is more effective
eta; biking does burn a decent amount of calories. i prefer biking over any other form of cardio (save maybe swimming) since its easy on my poor fragile knees0 -
ohh thankyou for the advice

Any exercise machine (cardio at least) can burn a lot of calories. Look for an activity you enjoy, and a machine that has variable speed, intensity, etc.0

I can burn more calories per minute on an elliptical, but I've never taken a crazy spin class/done anything other than pre-set programs on a stationary bike.0

Between treadmill, stationary bike, and elliptical I have a preference towards the treadmill. With a treadmill you can do indoor circuits, HIIT, inclined/simulated hills.0
