MY 3 YEAR OLD IS SOOOO SMART!

My 3 year old LOVES to learn! We bought flash cards when she was like 18months old, and work books not too long ago. She's gotten bored with the flash cards because they're too easy (Opposites, colors, numbers) but still loves her work books! Today I wanted to challenge her with something we haven't ever touched down on before- patterns!

I read her the directions "Look at the beads in each row. COLOR the next bead in the pattern.

First one I read to her (They have the colors wrote out, not colored in): YELLOW, BLUE, YELLOW, BLUE, YELLOW.....

And she immediately said BLUE!

Second one: RED, YELLOW, RED, YELLOW, RED....

YELLOW!

Ok! Those are easy! Third one...YELLOW, BLUE, RED, YELLOW, BLUE

.....RED IS NEXT MOMMA!

last one: BLUE, YELLOW, YELLOW, BLUE, YELLOW.....

"Mom! YELLOW!"

She is SO SMART! She knows all of her ABC's and can identify them- She can write 95% of them by me just saying "Can you write the letter 'Z'?", and 100% of them with a little help (Like me writing the letter "R" on the paper and saying "Ok, write 'R'!)
She knows what a quarter, dine, nickle, and penny are and how much they are worth.
She can count to 20, after that it's hit and miss though.
She can spell her own name, and write it too!
She can spell other easy words like dad, mom, and cat.
She can dress herself.
She has been potty trained for over a year
She knows sign language (Not perfect or ALL of it. But a really good amount)
She knows her colors
Shapes
Rhyming words (She learned this a few days ago)
Opposites
And can tell you what object doesn't belong (IE you have a helicopter, plane, tree, and balloon , she knows that the tree doesn't belong)
She can tell you the days of the week, in order
She knows the months of the year, in order
I'm sure there is more that I'm missing but I am SO PROUD of her! I'm really curious to see how things go when she starts school next year though. I'm kind of worried she will be REALLY bored. But she LOVES to learn and I love feeding her mind!

my second daughter was like that and she is still like that in the 4th grade. her principal called to tell me how great she was and her teachers all love her willingness to learn and listen and help others. Her last teacher for 3rd grade moved up to 4th and put her in her class again. I call her book smart because if she sees it she learns it, but common sense is an entire new ball game. She lets her friends pick on her and one even scratched her face and beat her up, but she was sooo sorry every time that she forgave her and its the same story every day.

Wow! The pattern/sequence stuff is way beyond where she should be right now! You will have your hands full keeping this one challenged throughout her childhood/education, and that is a wonderful problem to have! Enjoy!

if you help her to have realistic expectations about kindergarten, she will be fine, and boredom will fade as she is exposed to new curiculum. Help her to know that kindergarten is a place where you will get to meet a lot of new friends and have fun getting to know them. That way she will see it as a fun place, even if the curriculum is easy for her. And know that you are giving your daughter an educational headstart that as a teacher, I appreciate. The kids like yours make my job SO much easier, because I can then focus my concentrated efforts on the kids whose parents didn't do any of this...:flowerforyou:

Good for your daughter and good for you for encouraging her to love learning. My daughter was that way too. I used to get her the workbooks when she was little. She loved them and could actually do the work of about two or three grades ahead. In kindergarten she became the teacher's little assistant and helped the other kids. She was placed in the gifted class during grade school. I think it was in junior high or high school she had the opportunity to be in the gifted class again but she opted out because there were other extracurricular classes she wanted to take. During high schooll, she dropped out for a while then dropped back in and still managed to graduate with her class. She's always had a love of reading books is a very smart and successful young woman now.

So anyway, the way I see it is your daughter has a very bright future ahead of her because of what you're doing with her now. Great job!! Keep up the good work. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

She'll only be in pre-k next year! That's why I fear she'll be so bored! She wanted to go to school this year so bad and they wouldn't let her. They said she had to be 4 to start pre-k!
