HIIT and strength training on alt. days

So I've changed up my workout schedule so that I'm doing:

Monday-40 min. strength training
Tuesday-15 min. HIIT
Wednesday-40 min. strength training
Thursday-15 min. HIIT
Friday-40 min. strength training
Saturday-Hiking
Sunday-Rest

I've heard that HIIT works your body the same way as Strength training does so that you need a rest day in between as well. In that case, is it more efficient to do strength and HIIT on the same day? I was thinking of trying that but find that I BARELY have enough strength for HIIT let allow adding in strength on the same day.

If you are able to put your maximal effort into HIIT and strength training when they are placed on separate days then this will be fine! On strength training days I typically do a low-impact cardio for warm up and cool down.

I tried this last week, actually. I normally do MWF strength before work and Saturday or Sunday I do a cardio/abs session. I decided to add 2 HIIT cardio sessions on Tu and Th after work.

I was too beat to work out to my full potential on Wed and Fri mornings when I did the extra cardio sessions. I guess it really depends on your lifting routine. How heavy/how long do you lift?

Google "Cardio Acceleration" for your weight days. It is crazy good.
