i really don't know if it's relevant to losing weight or not but it's got me curious

  • I don't know if this pertains to you, but I have lost 90lbs and during that time I lost a tremendous amount of hair. Hair dresser recommended that I treat my scalp. I went to a beauty supply store and got a generic shampoo, conditioner, and scalp treatment for about $15 that is for hair loss; it really helped. Hope this helps!

Just checked your profile. You have a baby under 1 year old. When you are pregnant you get extra lovely lustrous hair from hormones and vitamins. When your body is getting over that hormone and vitamin rush, your new mane falls out. I'm not saying it's not from diet but I'm pointing out this is a VERY normal occurrence after kids.

DUDE - you double posted so so did I

I totally agree with Hambitsgirl - my hair fell out big time after each baby - I have always had very thick hair though so you couldn't tell (luckily).
If you are concerned though, go see your gp!

I third the 2 baby-hair posters. Keep taking your pre-nates and watch your nutrition. Most of it should come back in a year or so (depending on your particular hair growth cycle).

I will say that nutrition & stress caused a tremendous amount of hair loss for me in the last couple of years and I've not seen a return yet...... I'm devastated but keep hoping (not at all kid related - my younger is 7.5!)

Any significant stress to the body and endocrine system can effect hair loss/growth. Recommend continuing to eat healthy and exercise. Also massaging your scalp at least once a day will stimulate the papilla (hair root) and thus stimulate new hair growth.

It is probably related to your hormones settling down after having your baby. I lost a lot of hair after I had both boys and it felt like it went on for a long time! It its upsetting, isn't it?
If it continues, then you might want to talk to your doctor about testing your thyroid function and ferritin levels. Low iron stores can cause hair loss and so can thyroid issues.
Also, I tend to "shed" more in the fall and spring. My hairdresser said most of her clients do too!
