Anyone having a hard time swallowing food?

Warning - This post might be a little yucky!

Ok, so when I eat my meals (like tuna, chicken) often it gets lodged in my throat and won't go down... It then comes back up... I don't feel sick or anything - it just gets stuck and it comes up on it's own.

When I take a swig of water to help it got down after 1 or two bites, it's already too late... I consciously chew my food (especially when it's dry) so this won't happen...

Anyone ever have this problem??

Sorry for the yuckiness, but just upchucked 1/2 of my snack... I just don't know if it's normal or what (I feel weird just posting this for God Sakes!!!).

  • Do u have a fear of choking? Maybe you should google it and see what could be the cause. Good luck!

I'd go see a doctor if I were you. It's likely something simple like acid reflux, but it would be worth looking into!!

My husband has it... Eosinophilic Esophagitis

Go to a doctor, a GI doctor and tell them to test you for this. It is NOT a fun test.

In short, it's an allergic reaction you're having to something you're eating; common food allergies are: beef, eggs, fish.

Wow! Thanks for your post - it's exactly what happens. I will get my doc to check it out...

Does it happen with all foods or just dry ones or ones you don't really like a lot? It happens to me when I eat fresh veggies like carrots or broccoli (dense ones) or baked chicken with no sauce. I just figured it is a little to thick for me or something.
    I'm sorry - I'd go see a doctor though.

That's pretty rare. A range of esophageal disease can cause these symptoms, including any type of esophagitis or achalasia. Your doc will get you set up for a swallowing study and depending on the results he/she may need to arrange endoscopy.

    Here is some general info:
