Many are using protein powders to help keep protein levels up while losing weight as well as maintenance and bulking. Consumer Labs has a special 24 hour free access to their report on protein powders. Access is via Dr Oz's website http://www.consumerlab.com/DoctorOz Note that the only connection to Dr. Oz is getting the free access to the article. Once on the site it is all Consumer Labs. They ask you to sign up but only ask for first name, email address and password. I have accessed the article which is quite informative.

Yeah I heard about this. They analyzed like 30 brands of protein powder to see if the nutritional info was accurate. There were some brands that had only a fraction of the protein they claim or way more calories, carbs etc.0

One of the Shakeology protein powders had high levels of lead as well. There have been reports of melamine in some protein powders but in the ones tested, Consumers Labs found no melamine.0
