Plateaued for years but now it is urgent

I joined My Fitness Pal at young doctors suggestion when I came up as pre-diabetic over the course of the last 18 months. The doctor uses MFP for his own health reasons. I am 61 and in good health other than moderate hypertension that is successfully under treatment. I was moderately obese in my forties but shed just enough in my 50’s to come under the wire yet have stayed 15-20 overweight for years. So I am in that cusp of age+mobility+discipline where I need to shed those pounds now or my body is going to make changes where that loss will very difficult if not impossible.
I am an active hike and backpacker nominally works out 3-5 hours a week of aerobic through stationary biking, resistance training through weights 2-3 hours a week, and practice yoga 2-4 hours a week in class, and at least some breaks in the day. I also use yoga forms to cool down and warm up. I am out hiking, walking, or birding at least two days a week. I am seeing for me the food component in MFP is going to be more important than the exercise.
I am I believe a healthy eater but have too long been delusional about how much my real calorie intake has been. MFP is already starting to show that as I build out my food lists. I have for this kick off dropped all flour and sugar for a month with just vegetables, chicken and fish, eggs, and fruit. I prepare most of my own food but will use fast food or a diner for about a meal a week. Being divorced (4yr) I don’t have much excuse not to control when and how much I eat. I do like the pub once a week, 2-3 beers or a wine but not much since I started MFP.
This looks like an interesting community and I think this is going to work.
