Staying on track during emotional times

I’m traveling this weekend for a funeral and I know it’s going to be tearful. And I’ve been struggling with emotional eating.

I’m planning to hit a market early to buy healthy snacks. And I’m bringing exercise clothes and my good sneakers so that I can work out or at least get in some good walks.

WHAT do you tell yourself when you just want to inhale all of the food? When I am upset, I feel like a bottomless pit.
HOW do you say no to unhealthy foods when you want to eat them?

What are your tips for staying on the healthy eating track during emotional times? I’d be much obliged for any suggestions.

Sounds like you've got a good plan getting healthy snacks. Pack those shoes, then go pound it out. That is the best way to work through emotions, at least for me. And, I remind myself "If hunger isn't the problem, then food isn't the solution."

It's still hard at times, but I find if I go workout (run, walk furiously, kickbox, etc) when I'm done, I no longer want the food.

Hang in there friend, you will manage this, I know you will!! :-)

There is no wrong way to grieve. That said, I've been logging for over 125 days now, through the death of my father, personal trials and illnesses, celebrations, and the death of a friend just the other day. Keep logging. Log the extra ice cream. Make notes when you don't feel hungry. Make sure you keep in the habit, even if you are giving into cravings. It'll keep you accountable to yourself, and make it easier to get back into it.
