I cannot do Cardio

Due to major surgery I had several years ago- I have severe pain whenever I run, bike or use the elliptical trainer. I can walk, just not long distance or over difficult terrain without pain. As a result, I have not been able to do cardio as part of my workout routine. Instead, I've been doing resistance band training while doing combination exercises (that work more than one muscle group) for 20-30 minutes without resting between sets. Its working very well. I noticed immediately that my muscles popped back out after years of being unable to exercise at all. My physical endurance is increasing along with it (since I'm taxing several muscles at once) and recovery time after exercise is really a non-issue. I'm glad, because I never like cardio anyway. I got the idea from Randy Couture's Xtreme Training book- he describes training the muscles he's going to use in his fights rather than just running to build up endurance and I think he's on to something.
Weight wise, I dropped 8 pounds out of the gate (then back up 2). We'll see how it works in the long term, but so far it is doing the trick for me. I'm not knocking any other fitness plan, but if you're like me and can't do traditional cardio, its an option.
