Breast feeders

How big is your deficit and have you ever noticed a dip in supply related to your calorie intake?

I'm trying to decide if my sons recent turn to waking up 2x per night is because of lower supply due to too big a deficit. The timeline lines up, but it may just be coincidence.

If you are breast feeding, you should be eating alteast 500 calories above your calorie needs.

Weightloss during breastfeeding comes naturally so dont reduce your supply by going on a deficit. It is unfair to the baby.

how old is your son? They will just go through periods of waking up through the night regardless, a lot of it depends on milestones and if they are learning something new.

I've always eaten about 200 to 500 extra calories depending on how much my baby is nursing, 500 should be for exclusive nursing.

I've never really had a dip in supply, but I've always had an oversupply.

    He's 11 months old.

This past week I was on vacation and didn't log anything, just ate what I felt like and he slept through the night every night.

personally I feel like it's probably just a phase that he is going through. My baby will very rarely sleep through the night and he is 2, kids are weird. Hell I don't even sleep through the night, I wake up to get a drink of water and or pee.

At 11 months, waking during the night could be a variety of things. Teeth, working on a new milestone, upset stomach, just flat out screwing with you, etc.

We just weaned a few days ago, but I had a 1 lb per week goal and initially added 250 extra calories for breastfeeding an older baby. I never noticed a dip, but she was much older than your son when I started trying to lose weight.

If you are concerned about supply, I would just recommend logging your intake, keeping track of what he eats so you can rule out allergies/digestive issues from solids, and keeping a log of his behavior. Unfortunately when it comes to breastfeeding and weight loss there seems to be a lot of individual tweaking to find what works best.

My two-year-old doesn't sleep through regularly either. Last night she had us in and out of her room for about 4 hours, the night before she only woke once. Wish I knew what was going on in that little head of hers.

we bed share, makes life easier for us. I would lose my mind if I had to get out of bed every time he woke up, you're my hero!
