Hi All, I am really new to this...three days to be precise. I have been a yo-yo dieter since my 13th birthday and have not had much success. At 45, I nearly lost a total of 500 pounds as a result of yo yo - ing. So a few quick questions.

1. I am assuming that as long as I stay below the allocated grams of carbs, proteins, fats and calories, I will lose weight (according to my plan).

2. What is reaching the carb limit is impossible? Whenever I eat bread, pasta, or any wheat product, I have really adverse effects. I do not have a gluten intolerance nor celiac (was tested) but I just bloat horribly and feel awful.

Soooo....if I do not meet the carb levels, will this prohibit me from losing weight?

Thank you all for your input.

Hi Kim! I honestly have the same question about calories, but I would think as long as you stay under you should lose.

You will still loose weight as long as your calories are below. I choose to limit my carbs as I personally feel better when I do. Also keep in mind carbs are found in many foods including fruits and vegetables. Not just bread and pasta

    1. Yes, assuming you have no medical condition, that is correct.

    2. You do not need to hit the carb limit. Most people find the carb limit hard to stay under, you have the opposite problem. Plus, many here do not follow MFP's suggested guidelines for macros, their protein suggestion is on the low end and carb on the high end. You should be fine.

I get most of my carbs from fruit and veggies.

Yes, if you stay at or below your daily calorie allowance, you will lose weight. If you are using MFP the way it was designed-- logging exercise and eating the extra calories you get from doing so-- it's easy. Make sure, though, that you do eat back at least half your exercise calories or you will end up netting far too few calories each day. It's generally pretty unhealthy to net less than 1000-1200 calories a day.

Lots of people lose weight very well on low-carb diets, and/or ketogenic diets (keto is a way of eating that is very low-carb and high in protein and fat). If wheat products make you feel awful, don't eat them! You may have a sensitivity to wheat and/or other grains that's not medically detectable-- but you still know what makes you feel bad. Don't eat things if they make you feel ill, and you don't HAVE to eat the specific amounts of carbs, proteins, fats, etc. that MPF prescribes for you. However, it is a very good idea to get lots of protein-- that's the one nutrient you really don't want to skimp on as eating at or above your protein goal every day will help preserve your lean muscle, which can decrease as you lose weight if you don't eat adequate protein and do a least some strength training.

Have a look at this thread-- it's the best guide for how to use this site successfully and sensibly: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants

Stay below your net calorie goal to lose weight

This means weighing measuring and logging everything you eat and drink

Eat back an accurate estimation of exercise calories

If you have issues with certain carbs then reduce your goal and increase either your fat or protein goal or even both to compensate and to make a plan you can stick with. You can get plenty of carbs from fruit and veg and I am assuming these dont cause you an issue

Calories for weight loss while macros are more about nutrition, satiation and adherence
