I'm afraid to fail yet again, but here we go. I'm just not sure how I'm going to burn over 3,500 calories per day to shed 2 lbs a week. When I walk 2 miles in an hour, I only burn 400 cal. I have a bad back and the doc told me to just walk for now and don't use any machines. I did start a Zumba class one day a week, but that still won't get me to 3,500 burned cals/week. I have no idea how to do this.

  • when the site calculates your calorie goals for the day, it takes 500 cals away automatically for a loss of 2 pounds per week, or 250 for 1 pound per week :) don't knock it till you try it. go into with a positive attitude, and you just might be surprised by what happens :) welcome to the site, and best of luck!
  • i know it's confusing, but new things always are. you can totally do this! feel free to message me with questions :)

    Hi Marky,

Walking is a great way to start. The hardest part of exercise is showing up.
Here are some numbers to help you out.

    1lb fat = 3500 cals.
    Example: Diet 250 cal deficit + Walking 250 cal deficit = 500 dialy * 7 days = equals 3500 calorie deficit or 1lb a week.

Girl! Just from your walking your already there! You can do this!
  • Hi marykae, welcome to MFP! you have got great friends & supporters here to help you out ya, by logging on to MFP & add your diary & set your goals, TAKE A STEP AT A TIME! YOU CAN DO IT! Have to believe in yourself.
Start writting down affirmations about yourself & confess them every day positively, it works for me!
I have lost 1.6kg since i started MFP 7oct. It was hard in the beginning, but my effort in keeping to my daily calorie intake & exercising at least 3times a week has shown results. a new journey & a great view fro the top.
