First of all let me introduce myself.
Hello, my name is Matan, 24 yo, 5' 10 and weight about 190 pounds. I'm sorry if I'll have some grammar mistakes, but English is not my native language.
Even since I can remember I was struggling with my weight, 6 years ago my weight was 242 pounds!
I managed pulled myself together and 1 year later I was 165 pounds.
Since then I always trying my best to take care of myself and to keep my weight low.
Now my weight is 190, and I wanna lose 10 pounds or so. At 165 I was all skin and bones.
Two weeks ago I started Insanity. I don't think I need to tell you how hard it is!
Every workout is killing me and I try my best every time and I really can tell I got faster and a even a bit stronger.
The problem is, I'm not loosing any weight. And actually can't see much results.
My body can lose weight really quick, and with a proper diet and running every now and then I can lose up to 2 pounds a week.
That's why I found it very strange that I didn't lose any weight. At all. And I have a lot of it!
So I was thinking what could be the cause for that and I think it's about the food.
I really try to eat healthy. I actually don't remember the last time I ate any dessert, bread pasta etc.
I counted how much calories I ate today and it was 1300 overall. I eat 4 times a day and really don't let myself to be hungry.
I calculated how much calories I need to eat each day with the insanity nutrition guide and the result was 2700. WHAT?!
More than double the calories everyday? I really don't know how to do it!
You really think that my body is "starving"? And that's why I'm not losing any weight?
Everyday I drink 2 whey protein shakes. 1 in the morning and 1 after workout. I start my day with 1 whole tbsp of coconut oil, some veggies and boiled egg.
I eat proper lunch
And between meals I eat some fruits, almonds and a date or two. I usually workout in the evening so after that I drink my protein shake and eat a salad , a couple or rye crackers and some cream cheese.
And that's is. I never get hungry and it's all calculated to 1300 calories. And I don't know how or if I really need to eat 1400 calories MORE than that.
Sorry for the long post
And thanks from advance!

Hi there!
So there are probably two issues to deal with.
The first is anytime you start a new exercise routine your body holds onto more water. It's very common and you just need to give it some time to get back to normal. The water weight is just part of the bodys way of dealing with the demands that exercise puts on the body.
The other issue is you just want to make sure you are really only eating the calories you think you are eating. If you aren't weighing your food then chances are you are estimating way off. I thought I was at 1700 a day but when I measured everything it turned out to be 2300 a day. That alone can be the difference betweening losing weight or not.
Last but not least, just stick with it. You know that exercise and eating well will drop the weight eventually. Lots of people end up stalling for a while but sticking with it is the only way to drop weight.
Good luck!0 -
Something that I want to point out, briefly... your body needs 1200 calories before exercise just to function (on average). If you burn those 1200 calories doing the insanity workout, then yes - your body thinks it's starving and will put itself into starvation mode. Remedy that by increasing your total calories.
edit:
"before" as in net. You need a 1200 calorie net. It sounds to me like you're not hitting even 500 net.0 -

Are you logging what you eat? You should open your diary, so people can see what you are logging, and they can help you more. From the description of what you're eating, it sounds like you may be eating more than 1300 calories a day. And you should be.
You want to lose about 10 lbs, but at a rate of 2 lbs per week? Even if you've done this before, you shouldn't be trying to do it now.

Well, not exactly. You won't stop losing weight by eating too few calories. As I understand it, starvation mode is a slowdown in metabolism that occurs after a prolonged period of starvation. You would never stop losing weight and I'm pretty sure it only happened after the subjects in the study had already lost a significant amount of body mass. HOWEVER if you are eating only 1300 calories and then working out intensely then you are not fueling you body properly. You will lose muscle as well as fat, feel week and tired, be hungry all the time, and be more likely to give up and overeat as you're not getting enough food.
If you are sure about the amount of calories you have eaten (weighed all solids, measured all liquids) then it looks to me like your body is retaining water which, like an earlier poster said, is super common when starting a new workout. I 'gained' 4lb last week just because I started doing squats, then dropped it again when the muscle soreness went away0
