Freshman 15 and depressed

In the past year, I have gained the freshman 15 plus a few extra pounds. It has really made me upset because two years ago I had lost 30 pounds and now I am right back to where I started. I've already been on summer break for 2 months now and I go back in 2 more months. I have really been trying to eat healthy so I can lose it before I go back to school, but besides the dieting and exercising, I have stayed the same. I always seem to eat out on the weekends and even though I don't eat too too much, I still wipe out all that I had lost during the week. It is really taking a toll on me, because I want to be healthy again and it is straining my relationship with my mom who is trying to help me, but it's just not working. I never thought gaining 15+ pounds would make me so depressed, but it is. I don't know if there is something medically wrong with me or not, I am trying to see where I can get help. Is anyone in the same boat as me or have advice?

    Hi Abby!!

There is probably nothing medically wrong with you, so don't worry about that! Remember that it took you a year to gain those 15 pounds and with some motivation you can lose it all in a month and a half!

The sooner you get started, the sooner you will feel great about yourself. You CAN get where you want to be before school starts! The small hunger pains and soreness (if you exercise) will be nothing compared to the regret you will feel, because you know you could have done it and didn't

I want to lose 15 pounds myself, I added you, lets do this together!

Hi! My name is Kim and my weight loss journey began two years ago. I was at my heaviest (225) and things were not good. I couldn't keep up with my kids, I was tired all the time, and my doctor told me that my cholesterol was on the rise! I decided something needed to change. I started walking, and eventually doing some weight training. I am down over 70 pounds! I feel so much better, and I love supporting and encouraging people to do the same. I would be happy to be an accountability partner with you. I still have some weight to lose, so we can work at it together! Getting your nutrition under control is a big key to losing weight. I can share what has worked for me if you are interested. If you work hard, I know you can reach your goal! So what do ya say? Are you in?

My best bit of advice is to educate yourself because knowledge is power. Once you have that set up a reasonable plan and stick with it. You have to log EVERY SINGEL DAY EVERY SINGLE THING YOU EAT and stick to your goals to see results, but it can be done. These are the posts that have helped me the most along the way.

this has alot of information about nutrition and goal setting and its a tough read but if you go through it a few times and make and effort to understand it it can really change everything for you

logging is essential for success, do it and do it correctly

I am in the same boat as you! I gained the freshmen 15 (or 25 in my case) after i went away for school and now I'm using the summer to get back on track. How I've done it so far is by following these steps:

    1. Track daily
    2. Exercise daily (even if its just a walk to the store)
    3. Limit the number of times I eat out to once a week
    - Order the side salad instead of fries
    -Drink water at my meal
    4. NO Alcohol (I've broken this rule often though. So when I do drink I stick to a low calorie drink like gin and diet tonic; 30 cals ea)

Basically that's helped me lose 13 lbs so far since school let out. I am under my calorie goal each day and I still allow for indulgence, like the one day I had 5 slices of pizza! Keep at it though and if you need any support feel free to add :)
