Gastric Bypass

After three years of struggling and trying to do this naturally I finally gave in and went to the doctor. Found out a few things about myself that led me to the decision of having a gastric bypass. It's been 4 weeks since my surgery and I was hoping to find others who've had the surgery and get input and information and support from everyone's experience. For those who have had the surgery what advice can you share with me?

    Hi, I had Gastric Bypass on 9-9-2014. It can be a tough road but well worth it. I have already lost 45 pounds since my surgery 2 months ago. The best advice I can give is to follow doctors instructions, take ALL your vitamins, eat very very slowly, and really pay attention to sugar content. I forgot to water my juice once and experienced dumping and let me tell you. IT SUCKED! Good luck to you and feel free to message and add me as a friend.

    I'm in the middle of jumping all the hoops for the sleeve or the gastric bypass. It looks like you guys are doing well. Do you have any advice for one who is balancing on the edge of the cliff and can't decide if she wants to land in the ocean (sleeve), on the land (gastric bypass) or just go home?

    Strongly suggest getting into one of the MFP groups which deals with such surgeries, to learn about the lifelong problems, etc. people deal with afterward.

    I am new here and am about to get the sleeve in a couple of month. im in my 4 month monitoring pre-op right now. passed the psyc eval and no comorbidities. Im so excited. Just need to lose some weight before the op to get insurance approved

    Hey kids!

    I'm in the pre-op phase and my WLS is tentatively scheduled for April next year. I'd like to have a support group of MFP friends to help me, learn from and just general support.

  • I am doing all my pre op appts now and will have surgery in March. I struggle with the temptations of bad food because my husband and children eat differently than I am supposed to. Im just looking for friends to share my journey with.

    I am just about 5 months out and down 92 lbs. My recovery was uneventful and I feel better than I have in years; RNY was the best gift I ever gave myself. My advice would be this:

    Treat yourself with kindness. Don't rush your recovery. Give yourself time to heal from what is major surgery and always follow your team's plan for when to introduce new foods.

    Don't compare yourself and your successes to those of others. Weight loss is not linear. You will stall and you will lose again. If you stay the course there's no way you won't lose.

    Stay hydrated. For real I cannot stress enough how important this is.

    Plan, plan, plan. For me, the biggest factor in MY success thus far is to plan out what I'm going to eat at the beginning of the day. That way, if I need to tweak my menu to get in more protein or less sugar, I can.

    Be mindful. Mindful of what you eat and how fast. Of how much water you're taking in. Of how you are feeling. Of how you are changing. Because you will change and it will be fantastic.
