Calculating V02 Max

Options
What is a reliable way to calculate it? I'm 38 and have a resting HR of 52-54. To do the resting heart rate method I'm a 51. Does that seem off? I run fairly regularly and practice taekwondo.

ETA... When you look at tables such as this...I wouldn't consider myself "Superior"...

Yup, Bruce protocol treadmill test. The formula is different for men/women. When I was in an exercise lab we used ECG and rate of perceived exertion. I think Heybales mentions every 2 minutes, though we do it every 3 minutes upgrading by 2% and speed going up .8

    Formula for women: V02max= 4.38 x T -3.9

You can also do the submaximal exertion with the Astrand test (using a stationary bike) correlated with HR. We use a speedometer so that whoever undergoes the test has to pace themselves through a natural metronome. HR being monitered every 5 minutes. Though likelihood of this test being accurate is low, since it is based on a 220 max HR-age.

honestly, check out an exercise lab (many colleges have them) and I am sure they would love to run some tests on you ;)
