How do I lose 38 pounds within 4-5 months?

MFP says in order for me to lose 2 pounds a week at 188 pounds and 5'5, I must eat 1,200. Well, I know eating 1,200 isn't healthy and I also know if I workout then I should always eat my exercise calories back... But I know people that are my weight that claim they can eat way more, exercise little or not at all and lose 2 pounds a week still.

Can somebody explain to me how many calories I should eat in order to lose 2 pounds a week & why?

Without knowing your exercise routine, setting you at sedentary your.

TDEE is 2000 calories, so your TDEE -20% is 1600, BMR about 1700.

You have MFP set WAYYYYY to aggressive if your goal intake is 1200. At 18 you need to worry about fueling and taking care of your body, not crashing dieting with such a low cal goal.

Workout a little and you could have an intake of 2000 and drop weight.

So you want to lose 2 pounds or more a week healthily without having to starve yourself or deprive yourself or your exercise?

    Sure....

Step 1) Become morbidly obese, because the morbidly obese with 100+ pounds to lose are pretty much the only people who can lose over 2 pounds a week healthily and keep it up for multiple months.

If you are not morbidly obese then I am afraid you are going to have to lose weight slower to remain healthy along with the rest of us.
