TDEE question

I calculated my TDEE less 20% to be 1510 calories a day. I have hypothyroid. Do I need to reduce that number some to account for this? MFP has me set at 1200 but I feel that is too few calories.

you could start at 1500 or try a bit less, see what happens after a few weeks.

You're likely to have a lower rate with the hypothyroid, it's up to you how you approach it. If you dial in a lower loss rate MFP will allocate more calories.

I also use TDEE minus 20%, and unfortunately am going hypo. I had RAI 3 months ago. No thyroid meds yet. I find that if I exercise 40 minutes a day by walking at 3.5 miles per hour, and truly sticking to the 1550 calories, I do not gain weight and actually lose a few ounces a week. It's slow going. I actually over ate yesterday by 300 calories. Which shouldn't matter, because I was still below my TDEE, or right at it. but I weiged a few ounces more on the scale today. I used to be hyper thyroid so this is all new to me. You may have to try a little extra hard to see a loss. when I first joined the site I went by the 1200 calories. Then I would exercise and eat back my exercise calories. It's about the same as using the TDEE method. Good luck! ????

I am Hypo (Hashimoto's and a DEAD thyroid) and eat 1600-1800 calories... . so I wouldn't lower it. I would highly recommend strength training of some sort... it will help with the losses you will incur with hypo (vitamin D, bone loss, etc...).
