Daily Sodium Allowance

Is anyone else having a hard time trying to stay within the 2500mg of daily sodium on their weight loss journey? I've been only looking at the calorie intake not relising how much sodium I'm eating like around the 3000 mg mark. I do eat some process sandwhich meats for my lunch. I do drink like 8 glasses minimum daily and am on a water pill due to high blood pressure. Should I be worrying about this or just keep concentrating on my calorie intake? I run 5k daily and sweat quite a bit.

Honestly, if you are ok with some water weight and don't have BP issues, i wouldn't stress it too much. I know I never look at sodium but some do. Eating foods high in potassium and magnesium can help mitigate some of the retention.0

MFP tracks 5 things. It defaults to track Protein/Carbs/Fat (important) and then to fill the other 2 slots Sodium and Sugar (not so important). You can turn the tracking off in your options menu if you don't like looking at it it really isn't that important unless you have high blood pressure and your doctor told you to avoid sodium.
The reason I think MFP tracks sodium and sugar is to aid for those who do have high blood pressure or those who are diabetic. Everyone else can pretty much safely ignore those unless you are getting a ridiculously HUGE amount of sodium.0 -
If you have high blood pressure you might want to try cutting your sodium intake; some people with hypertension respond badly to high sodium diets. However, if it does not affect you there is no need to worry.
To go low sodium you have to avoid processed foods as much as possible - sausages, luncheon meat, cheese and other usual suspects. Some foods can be surprisingly high in sodium as well, like bread, cookies or tinned vegetables.0 -
I do have high blood pressure and are on meds, but has dropped dramatically from my weight loss. I will try to cut down on my sodium like lunch meats and cheese...gonna miss my cottage cheese and yogurt breakfast LOL
