hi everyone! so i'm starting week 5 of a Biggest Loser comp between some family and close friends. i'm gonna post what i have done differently each week. i need all the input, suggestions (however brutal it needs to be!) and any thoughts you have! i have 4 weeks left of the competition. so far i am in the lead with officially losing 18.6 pounds, but there is a lady very close on my heels! we are going by percentage lost and she is only .7% away from me. my initial starting weight was 258lbs. so... here goes:

week 1: cut out all sweet tea, soda and started walking 2mph, 30 mins, twice daily. lost 5.8 pounds (mainly water weight i would assume)
week 2: cut portion sizes down, mfp said i had 1310 cals a day, i was sticking to 1400 and less. (i was starving at 1300). bumped my walking to 2.5mp 40 mins, twice daily
week 3: traded in the junk food and processed food and really went for fresh, healthy veggies and fruit. stuck with 2.5mph, 1hr session in the morning, and 30 mins in the evening. also started core rythyms 20min workout every other day, the opposite day i did wii fit free step and free run 30 mins total. the free run is basically a quick walk.
week 4: same as week 3, but focused a lot more on sodium
week 5: same as week 3 &4, but bumped the walking to 3.0mph, same time lengths. still did core rythyms, also started some light calisthenics at home, 20 mins.. (push ups, crunches)
so.... what shoudl i work on the last 4 weeks?? i am not ready to jog on the treadmill yet, my knees can't handle it without serious pain. i can't get to the gym, i run an in home daycare, and i can't really afford to buy weights or anything like that. we do have netflicks, and i thought about doing a different workout off there instead of the wii.... need all the thoughts and help i can get! thanks!

It sounds to me like you are doing great! Lots of motivation! Not really sure what to change though. Keep up the great work!

    Hi,

I'm no expert, but if you look at all the changes you have made in the past few weeks, it is amazing! I think the trick is just to keep doing what you are doing. Keep up the exercise - you are doing great and walking is an excellent form of exercise.

Keep going on the fresh fruit and veggie thing - especially veggies as they are so low in calories. Maybe have a look now at your carb vs protein intake to make sure that you aren't eating too many carbs (I think about 50% of your cals should come from carbs, but don't quote me on that!).

And drink plenty of water - try to take in about 2 litres a day.

18.6lbs is a helluva lot to lose in 4 weeks, and it the loss will naturally slow down over time. But don't get disheartened. You are doing an incredible job!

You could add some strength training- I use this,

    http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2009/12/09/beginner-body-weight-workout-burn-fat-build-muscle

its based mostly on body weight, and there's no esp need to buy weights, I use an old gallon jug filled with water for the one "weighted" exercise. If you have problems with your knees (I have issues from sports) you can slightly modify the Squats and Lunges- I stand near something at about waist height (like a desk or bureau) and just lightly hold on as I sink (slowly)into the position- this ensures that my knees dont go past my toes when bent (which is what puts unnecessary pressure on them).

Any way with 4 weeks left, 2-3 days of strength training a week will proly really give you a kick that last week, since these muscles tend to burn fat and cals even when at rest (as they try to recover). you could start with half of the circuit and build up over the weeks or something.

    Good luck!

:flowerforyou: Wow...you are doing great! I have purchased the Slim in 6 Series by beachbody.com. There are 6 DVDs. Each 60-70 minutes in length. The workouts vary throughout the week. It keeps you interested and works different parts of the body. They were around $60.00 bucks. Check it out!
