pain in elbow

So I've been doing more strength training recently with particular focus on arms/back/shoulders/chest. I've been lifting heavy (well, heavy for me) with low reps and more sets. It has been going really well and I increased the weight the other day but my left elbow hurt so badly during bench press I couldn't finish my sets and I couldn't do any other exercises that required me to bend and straighten my elbow. I hadn't changed my form at all, just added a little weight but nothing dramatically heavier.

I let it rest a few days and when I went to do shoulder press today with a weight I've been using for a while my left elbow hurt again. I'm not sure what's going on but I'd be really bummed if I wasn't able to keep doing strength training.

Any advice?

ice it. take some ibuprofen, and start warming up better. do some dynamic stretching.

does it hurt when you extend it to reach for something? your elbows might be coming in too tight, or even flaring out. google some bench press form videos.

Might be the start of elbow tendinitis. Look up "tennis elbow" and "golfers elbow". See which one you may have and look at treatements for it.

Is it tennis elbow or in the joint?

I don't think it's Tennis Elbow. Just checked out some information on it and it doesn't seem like my pain is in the same area where Tennis Elbow usually presents... the pain is more IN the elbow...

It could still be tennis elbow or golfer's elbow. I'm guessing it hurts the most when you try to straighten your arm out?
