I started doing P90x and I am currently on day 49 (YAY ME), but I am wanting to be me more accountable for my food journaling as well as keeping track of my exercise. There is no P90X in the exercise journal and I have no idea how to figure out the calories burned when doing one of the cd's provided. Does anyone have any way to help me out?

The most accurate way is to get a Heart Rate Monitor- (HRM) A good one- Polar costs about 100$ giver or take if you shop around for a good deal. Its the best purchase I have made on my weight loss Journey, you can find cheaper ones but they will be less accurate and difficult to use. If you do get one make sure you get one with a chest strap, not just a watch :D

Do you have a HRM?? I highly recommend one if you don't. What I do is go to the exercise tab, click on "my exercises" then click on the create exercise button. There you can customize a particular workout to your standards. I put it the exercise, how long, and the calories burned based on my HRM. Good luck! I am also on day 49 of my first round! How is it going for you??? I'm completely hooked and already planning on round 2 when this is over!!!

Thanks for answering. I will be going shopping for a HRM I guess! I was kinda wanting one anyway now i just get to justify it!! I LOVE doing the P90X. I am completly hooked and I am planning my second round as well. I am thinking i will be starting right in the beginning of January. I am currently doing the lean version so i am hoping to be able to complete the classic on my second turn. as far as weight loss goes I have not weighed myself in a few weeks because it was just too discouraging. I have read all about not letting the scale determin how well you are doing but I just couldn't handle seeing NOTHING moving, so I stopped getting on it. But now on the other hand I have also read that a lot of the magic will be starting up for us right away here in the last 30 days or so, so I figured I would get back on and hopefully watch it melt away!! :)
How are you doing? Are you doing the clasic, lean, or doubles? Are you happy with your results so far?

A heart rate monitor is a good idea, but if you are on medications that effect heart rate then it could be thrown off on calorie counts. For example, someone on blood pressure medicines that decrease heart rate (like beta blockers) will show a lower calorie burn then what they actually used. Another example, is someone like me who has asthma and takes medications for it, or someone who consumes caffeine, that elevates heart rate. Those will cause a heart rate monitor to show a higher calorie burn then what is actually used. Because of the possibility of having medical issues throw off a HRM, in my exercise physiology program at university (its a program focusing on exercise for general populations as well as specifically for cardiac rehab) we use the METs compendium (http://prevention.sph.sc.edu/tools/docs/documents_compendium.pdf) for determining calorie needs. I believe this is the same thing that MFP uses. Basically, you pick the exercise that is closest to what you did (For P90X, I would call it weight lifting, vigorous, which is 6 METs.), take the MET level and multiply it by your weight in kilograms to get calories per hour. To get pounds converted to kilograms, divide pounds by 2.2. Then if you do more or less then an hour, multiply the calories per hour by the time.

So, just an example of how the math is done:

220 pound person (to make the math easy) / 2.2 = 100 kilogram person

    100 kilograms x 6 METs = 600 calories per hour

    45 minute P90X workout = 0.75 hours

    600 calories x 0.75 hours = 450 calories burned.

Have you been following some sort of meal plan?? I've been sorta trying to do the portion approach and make sure I'm within my calories, so far my weight loss has been 5.2. And to be honest, I haven't been perfect with the diet stuff, but I'm trying to make it work, I kinda killed it on the halloween candy that was in the house and all the stupid treats and crap my co-workers have been bringing in!! I'm working on my willpower which currently is pretty bad!! However I've been doing my best and forgetting the rest and i really have been at least accounting for what i've been eating and tracking it even if it's not good! What I'm noticing more than seeing the scale move is how my cloths are fitting me... because they don't fit me at all!! My "skinny" size 12 jeans are completely falling off of me... it's crazy... i do have a size 10 but i haven't had the courage to try them on yet!! I'm doing the classic version and I've been mixing in some extra cardio here and there so far i'm feeling great and this is the most i've ever stuck with something so i'm very proud and happy... at this point there is NO stopping now I can't wait to be a p90x grad!!
