I just got one heck of a challenge...

My mother, who has been heroically not urging me to diet for the past two years, but has been silently worrying about me until I decided to do it for my own reasons, has offered me a reward challenge.

When I reach 155 pounds, she'll give me a thousand dollars.

When I reach 130, my final target weight (my intended maintenance weight is 135, but I assume I'll gain back a couple of pounds after I go off the strict diet, so I'm aiming for 130 initially), she'll pay for tickets for myself and my kids to go from Seattle to New York for a visit with her and with our other family and friends in New York. I can't afford to visit my family often, and that's an absolutely golden prize for me.

Since I intended to go after these weights anyway, I'm delighted. She did a good job of not pushing me till I was ready to diet for my own motivations, not from the outside, and now she's helping me along.
