Weekend Sabatoge

Gah! My weekend totally sucked balls! I went out to eat 3 times in 2 days and ate all the sugar I could get my hands on!

Had a rockhard Friday - ate all-natural foods all day long and did a 50 minute workout, plus another 10 minutes on the elliptical, had weighed in at 128 that morning and was SO PROUD OF MYSELF!

Saturday I weighed in and the scale hadn't budged. I don't know what I was expecting, 1-2 pound weightloss. Even a 1/2 pound would have been motivating. But nattta. Nothing. That was discouraging.

So I said "@)#$(* it". I all but gave up. I ate chicken tenders and tator tots for lunch and I didn't care. My husband and I did Chinese takeout for dinner and it tasted SO GOOD. I ate until I was stuffed.

Sunday morning I weighed myself and I was up by 2 pounds. I completely fell apart - was so discouraged that I totally sabatoged myself and ate ALL DAY LONG! I had Halloween candy, icecream, and anything I could get my hands on. I wasn't even hungry but my mouth wanted to be full and chewing. It was terrible! Bob Evans for breakfast, Famous Daves for lunch...

This morning I was up ANOTHER 1.5 lbs. I went from 128 on Friday to 131.5 this morning.

I am determined to make this week count, so I got up and worked out for 30 minutes. It seemed to get my burn going and I was 130 after my workout. But I only really count any weigh-in when I first wake up, so the 130 doesn't really count. But it was the encouragement that I needed to stay strong the rest of the day. I'm really hoping that I'm at LEAST 129 tomorrow morning so that I don't totally embarrass myself at the weigh-in.

Anyway - I just wanted to share this. My frustration and anger with myself. My disappointment and embarrassment. I'm sure a lot of people go through this same sort of self-sabatoge on the weekends, and I just wanted to let you know that you aren't the only one. It's hard for everyone on the weekends, but we have to remember all the hard work we did - we don't want to undo all of that. And if you did blow your weekend like I did, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start over.

Hope you guys had a better weekend than I did. Good luck today - stay strong and be good!

Now don't be beating yourself up, that's why we are here. We can do that for you. It's Monday now, a new day and a fresh start.

Sweetie - most of that weight (if not ALL) was water weight. All you needed to do was drink some water. Next time you're up after Chinese and crap food, understand that you would have had to eat 3000 calories of it OVER your daily sitting burn to add a pound. So next time cheat your once and the next day drink your water and don't weigh for a few days. You could have done yourself a favor by starting your metabolism up with the one cheat.

    Start over and relax.

I know what you mean. Weekends are the worse time for me as well, simply because they're not as structured as a work day. I get bored and start nibbling... plus getting errands done and hitting fast food joints doesn't help.

The best thing is to carry a snack in your purse and try to hold off eating when you're out and about. And most of all, don't beat yourself up! It's a new week, a fresh start!

  • Don't beat yourself up! You need to stay away from that scale-it seems to be sabotaging you more than the food! It's OK to let yourself go a little on the weekends. Key words: a little! My theory is work hard during the week, and give yourself a little break on the weekend. Have your ice cream OR tater tots, but don't completely let go. This will give you something to look forward to, fill your cravings (not all of them) and a remind to get back on track starting Monday. But seriously, hide that scale until weigh-in!!

I know where you are coming from. I had a horrible weekend too! You will be back to 128 before you know it!

Oh man it happens to us all....

I would highly suggest not stepping on that scale EVERYDAY! it's bound to flucuate and make you feel like you just did. So pick a day of the week and stick to just getting on the scale that day.

Chin up my dear you'll be back on track in no time at all.
  • Don't forget to give yourself credit for coming back to MFP. You can do this, just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start again.

You may have not even gained weight to be honest.

Chinese food has a lot of sodium in it. A LOT. You can be retaining a lot of water especially if you didn't drink a lot of water this weekend. Notice how your dropped weight after working out? You sweated out some water. Don't beat yourself up over this. Weigh yourself again in a few days and make sure you're drinking a lot of water to help!
  • Okay, well first of all, stop weighing yourself every day, especially after having bad days. it's like you are purposely punishing yourself.

Second, look at the food you ate. How much of that was completely swimming in salt. Chinese food has a TON of it, and then we add soy sauce :) Anything that you get when you are eating out is going to be just filled with sodium. You are sitting on a bunch of water weight and need to just get it out of you.

And last... there is nothing more frustrating than having the "perfect week" to not see the scale move. I found myself crazy frustrated with this myself, recently. This weekend may have been the best thing you could have done for yourself... except that it wrecked you emotionally. Let the weekend be what it was, and move on.
