Howdy, I'm Dave, 45 year and I've been overweight for most of my adult life, though not so much as a simple height-weight BMI suggests. I was 215 lbs when I started graduate studies two years ago, a bit over where I want to be but tolerable. Since then, my studies plus a full time desk job have consumed all my free time and eliminated almost all extracurricular activities (i.e. enjoyable exercise). This combined with only 4-6 hours of sleep per night and eating/drinking the stress of trying to keep up with everything has had predictable results. I graduated this past weekend and weighed in at 241 lbs yesterday. It's now time to atone for my sins.
My goal is 190 lbs, but i only expect to touch that briefly for the satisfaction of achieving a 50 lb weight loss. Afterwards i hope to maintain between 195 and 205, somewhat overweight but able to drink in moderation, have enjoyable meals once or twice a week, and not stress over missing a workout here and there. My previous weight loss regimen has been decidedly old school (run stairs at local stadium, drastic caloric reduction), so I'm intrigued by the new tools available and looking forward to how MFP, endomondo, and this community can make the process less miserable.
