I will be joining thousands of people nationwide this fall to walk in AFSP's Columbia Area WalkOut of the Darkness Community Walk to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. I would appreciate any support you give me for this worthwhile cause.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is at the forefront of research, education and prevention initiatives designed to reduce loss of life from suicide. With more than 38,000 lives lost each year in the U.S. and over one million worldwide, the importance of AFSP's mission has never been greater, nor our work more urgent.

This year I will be walking in honor of Sgt. Keith Parrish and Retired Capt. Mike Hendrix. Both Sgt. Parrish and Capt. Hendrix spent many years serving the citizens of Columbia before they took their own lives. Since the death of Capt. Hendricks I have been an active member of South Carolina Law Enforcement Assistance Program dealing mostly with suicide prevention.
