Unpleasant surprises!

I hvave had some unpleasant caloric and nutritional surprises lately. Here are two:
-the "healthy" turkey burger with lettuce and tomato at Ruby Tuesdays=810 calories, with grilled zucchini side=+40
-Shelled Edamame at a Japanese restaurant, 1 cup (I probably ate more, but who can really tell what a cup of pods looks like)=200. Anyone who was thinking "vegetable," think again--legume. Won't forget that next time!

    One word: muffins.

Don't, under any circumstances, order a muffin and think you're getting a healthy, low calorie treat. You can eat 3 cookies for the calories in a muffin. (700 + calories for the big ones.)

My favorite sandwich from Panera is almost 1000 calories. I do like how they post calorie amounts on their menu though.

I think the worst for me was founding out an appetizer of onion rings are Red Robins is 1660 cals. That's 460 more than I should eat in a day!

Edamame is an awesome protein and fiber source. I'd chalk that up to 200cal well spent.

My brother likes to say muffins are cupcakes stripped of their frosting so you can eat them for breakfast.

Mine was finding out Arby's market turkey sandwiches had more calories than the reubens, though.

Ha! Well, that will teach you not to eat a plate full of high-glycemic carbs, butter and syrup!! It would cure me of any fond memories or cravings!

Yes! The muffins. Someone at work brought 3 boxes in today for everyone and I took a gander. Over 400 cals each!

    Pizza.
    LOADED with sodium.
I'm not really watching sodium, except that I don't like to be bombed with it, and the water retention that follows.

The huge amount of sugar in some pasta sauces and in most yogurt... now buying plain yogurt and mixing in my own addings so even if splurge I at least know what I'm eating.

I was a little shocked when I sat down and calculated my calories from mindlessly grazing out of a can of black olives. Soooooo good but holy cow do they add up. Oops.
