Pre-workout supp - ADVICE / RECOMMENDATIONS NEEDED

I am hoping some ladies (or guys if you have had similar situations) can give me advice on Pre Workout supplements....

I took one about a month ago-- some green apple stuff that a friend was taking before we went to the gym and I had a response that I did not find appropriate for the gym.

Sure, I was amped and had lots of energy, but I also had other responses that made me 'uncomfortable' in the gym.

Has this happened to anyone else, and if so, what PWO do you recommend? i do not want to I feel like I have taken an illicit substance.

For years I have been a two cup of coffee and food fasted kind of girl (preference), and would be interested in possibly looking at a PWO.

I usually made my own with a coke, a couple of teaspoons of instant coffee, and a scoop of protein powder blended with ice. The only side effect I noticed was the energy spike.

i use unflavoured, plain beta alanine powder mixed in sugar free juice. all side effect it gives me is the itch/ant attack. some people can work past by it, some even like it. i find it quite disturbing.

Most pre workouts are just stimulants. Caffeine is the usual ingredient in most and if that's the case, then buy them cheap at the store for a couple of bucks instead of spending 5 times that amount on some hyped up powder.

If you're just looking for an energy boost, just take some Caffeine Pills or drink something with Caffeine e.g. Coffee.

Personally I take Creatine and Beta Alanine about an hour before I workout. The only real "pre-workout" supplement I take is Hemavol which is a non-stimulant preworkout. I like taking it on my higher rep lifting days as it gives me an incredible "pump"

iced red eye and/or a 5 hour energy works for me, and the (albiet few) ladies I've trained with in the past.

I'm already at two cups of coffee before the gym. :ohwell:

I suppose I was just thinking I could get something good out of a PWO without feeling inappropriate.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions so far. I'd love to hear more.

I prefer to minimize my supplements. John Meadows recommended this to me because I lift very early in the morning...

    - Pre
    1 serv almond butter
    1 serv whey
Green Tea Caffeine Pills (not from John)
    1 serv Creatine

    - Intra
    10 - 20gm's BCAA's
Gaspari Nutrition Glycofuse or Gatorade (cheaper)
    1 serv Creatine

I'm actually experimenting with MusclePharm's Recon for my intra-workout because it actually works out to be a little cheaper for me.

I just use caffeine, but I have a couple of friends who love "Mr Hyde" and one of the key reasons is because they avoid the said "discomfort".

Edit: oh wait I thought you meant gastro-discomfort. If the discomfort you feel is the beta alanine tingle, this certainly won't help with that.
