Weekends..................

Having habitually hit the pub on a Friday after work for as long as i can remember, i know that (for me) the ante will be upped come the end of my working week tomorrow.

Apart from turning into a hermit, how can someone who finds it hard to say no to most things ride out the storm which is Friday evening effectively ?

I don't want to drink alcohol (as my body is now a temple :)), but cant face sipping insipid low cal drinks while my friends get high.

Then again I don't want to be a social butterfly or party pooper.

I'm sure i can just give it a swerve for a while, but wondered how others have addressed this challenge?

Any thoughts most appreciated.

Craig x

i definitely have this problem. gin and tonics have become my friend. i try to save up some cals from earlier in the week if i know im going out on the weekend, or ill just fast the morning of or after a night of drinking

that, or order a dark beer (which are typically less calories) and milk it all night

Back in the day, a small group of my friends.. basically the "cool" people used to push me to come out to the bars with them on the weekend. I always just did my own thing and never really was interested in that whole scene so it didn't take a lot of resistance to say no because I knew the end result. Now, present day these so-called "cools" are now giant losers and basically drink everyday and look like complete **** not to mention eat like complete **** too... Resist temptation, it's a part of the sacrifice that's going to make you the better person in the end.

You could try saving up the calories beforehand or consume up to your calories maintenance level for that day. There isn't anything wrong with flexibility so I focus on not going over my calories limit for the week more so than the day.

Then go have fun, I'm just saying drinking is not my idea of fun. I can think of more fun and healthier things to do with my time. I'm not a "bar douche" and never will be.

If you want a pub day here's what you can do. Whatever your daily calorie allotment is, reduce it by 100 for everyday but Friday. This buys you an extra 600 calories for Friday. You now have about 4 pints of Guinness saved up from the rest of the week. Enough to enjoy yourself but not so much to totally derail you. If you end up not going out you can either use those 600 calories for something tasty or count it as extra deficit.

i consider myself more of a bar enthusiast than a douche but to each its own i guess

    Fair enough ;)

It wasn't directed at you, just my generalization.

Go do some cardio in the morning, then enjoy your Friday. Make sure you add everything into your diary and stay in your calorie goals. Works wonders. If you look at this as something thats punishing you, it's not going to work long term.

Weekends are my downfall also, I dont drink but I just dont feel motivated on those days, after a full work week and 10 + hours at the gym, I get lazy with exercise and food habits on the weekend. I feel your pain bro

This is pretty sound advice, however, 600 calories is more like 3 Guiness pints, not 4. That is unless a pint isn't the same 16 ounces it is here in the U.S.

I personally stick with lighter beers and have a glass of water at the same time. I drink less beer and stay hydrated all at the same time. Not only do I drink less calories but I wake up the next morning feeling just fine.
  • Thanks for the advice all.

    I'm Scottish - We drink :)

I like the banking calories idea to allow the pints of Guinness, however after three my defenses will be low and three will become nine.

I also agree with the fact that most regular drinkers are a) out of shape and b) not particularly happy with their lives.

So by my reckoning I stay away a while until i feel confident enough to go along and not give in to temptation.

If I can hold fast for the 19 weeks i have until I head on vacation, I can then have one or two over the eight as way of celebration.

    Simple :)
