New guy here

Hello everyone
I joined this site because right now I'm 5'5 and weight 111.5" and that is underweight but I still have Moobs, and belly fat (which is lowering my self confidence. And not to mention I've been vegan for 2 years. At the gym I'm nervous to go into the weights section so I do lots of cardio, which is why I need some guidance and motivation to help me get muscle (I have practically nothing right now) ^_^

Thank you

I recall the same feeling the 1st time I was at the gym - just remember everyone has a first time for everything new they try and no one is judging you there - if anything I admire people who get out of their comfort zone.

Also, there is nothing wrong with saying you are brand new at something and asking for guidance and help - I ask for help when trying new free weight stuff constantly and people are always receptive - IF YOU LISTEN AND PRACTICE THEIR ADVICE - I remember I went up to a body builder at my gym who obviously was skilled at what he did (prob weighed 270lbs) and I asked for input on how to do two free weight lifts he was doing I had never seen before.

then some other n00b asked him the same thing when I was practicing what he said - then the n00b proceeded to argue with the guy that was being nice trying to show us both this new move - as we were both interpreting his working - just be respectful when you ask for help and your ganna be fine.

    And smile often
  • Good luck getting into shape! I know there are always a handful of buttheads in the gym, but most people are just there to work out. I started at 108 pounds skinny girl way back when, but never had the fear of the "weight room". It was more like I had "graduated" from the chest press Cybex machine to the bench press. Trust me when I say, there is nothing to be afraid of :-).

Are you getting enough protein? I don't know a thing about vegan diets, but Google might.
  • One more thing:
Weight rooms generally have some unwritten rules, like not curling in the squat rack, re-racking your own weights, etc. A search for "Gym Etiquette" on Google will bring up some good pages. Mostly it's just being respectful and responsible.
