You need coffee in the morning to help you change the things you can, and wine in the evening to help you accept the things you can't.
Can I get an AMEN!
Personally I must have 5 cups of coffee and 2 or more cups of tea daily plus a couple bottles of water. I try to have a glass of water for every coffee I drink.0 -
I say no caffeinated beverages for those undertaking serious weight loss.
No caffeine equals better sleep and/or more sleep. No lying awake in bed feeling hungry or obsessing about food!
If the second sentence is a problem, then cutting back on caffeine in the evenings might be a good idea. I don’t see how a morning cup of coffee or tea would inhibit sleep at night, though.
But, if you are hungry every night you might need to adjust your meal times or overall calorie consumption. Losing weight should not mean going hungry on a regular basis.0 -

I went from 310 lbs to 180 lbs while drinking 5-8 cups of coffee every day (pretty normal in the Netherlands). Mind you that when I was 310 I barely had coffee and now I drink it all the time.
When you're used to it the effect on sleep is minimal and the added benefits of drinking coffee include reduced chances of certain types of cancer, better regulation of blood sugar (good for weight loss), increased metabolism (good for weight loss), and a lower risk of diabetes. Altogether **** is pretty cash.0 -

so very true
and to add my two cents......
the caffeine in green tea and the caffeine in coffee is different. the caffeine in coffee gives you that quick buzz and then it goes away leaving you wanting more. while the caffeine in green tea (and especially matcha) is a slower released caffeine over a period of about 8 hours. also people tend to think that tea has more caffeine which in a sense is true. there is more caffeine in a pound of tea than there is in a pound of coffee....but a pound of tea is a lot bigger than a pound of coffee so you consume more caffeine in a cup of coffee than you would a cup of tea. Also drinking green tea is a good natural way to give your metabolism a little kick start.0 -
Oh you guys!
I never thought I could give up caffeine until I actually did it.
It only took staying in bed for a week with a constant headache that wouldn't go away.
But when I awoke from withdrawal hell I was a new gal!
I've lost 112 lbs while drinking a minimum of 2 pots of coffee a day. Why would I want to put myself through hell when I enjoy my coffee. I figure I could have worse vices and I'll stick with my coffee besides a week with no coffee and I would probably be divorced or locked up for murder.
Life is meant to be enjoyed and coffee brings me pleasure0 -

Coffee doesn't strip your body of iron, it only inhibits its absorption. It is recommended to not drink coffee with meals where you are consuming iron.
If you are not getting enough iron in your diet, your doctor can prescribe a supplement.
Most importantly: Space it out. If you are going to take an iron supplement or eat something to acquire iron, use the "2 hour 6 hour rule." Meaning, don't drink coffee or tea less than 2 hours before consuming the iron nor less than 6 hours after consuming the iron. This is the most common way to prevent interaction between drugs that interact in this way, and this method is used commonly in clinical practice.
Hope this helps.
Side Note: Clinical studies show promising research in terms of the health benefits of caffeine. Consuming caffeine in reasonable amounts (1-2 cups of coffee per day 95-190 mg caffeine) will not be detrimental to your health nor your weight loss plan if you are a normal healthy young individual. If you have diabetes, hypertension, or osteoporosis risk factors it may be beneficial to consult with your doctor if you are truly concerned.0 -
Usually I drink some coffee in the morning and afternoon. At the evening I drink green tea, what is ok. I just feel cold all the time to be drinking cold water. I read coffee blocks the iron absorption by the body, and iron is mainly in red meat (which on a diet I am eating very few).
What do you say? Coffee: drinking or not? Same applies to tea with caffeine.
Lots of factors with low iron. Caffeine is just one of them. Vitamin C helps you absorb (more) iron.
Many breakfast cereals are fortified with iron.....Grapenuts & Raisin Bran have good iron numbers. Dark leafy veggies have iron too.0 -
I was told I started drinking coffee when I was a small child, so I've been at it for 50 years. I never had any problem with sleeping after drinking coffee, even right before bed. And after drinking Navy coffee, what most folks call strong is not. But a few years back my wife started having problems with caffeine, so I gradually cut back on it over several months. Now I do a blend with 90% decaf {Folgers and Starbucks Italian Dark Roast} and 10% caffeinated {Black Silk} that gives me a little lift without messing her up. And I have cut back to 5 or 6 cups a day. I have a cup with every meal, but after I get through eating. Since I feel a little rusty when I first get up, holding the iron in check can't be a bad thing.0
