I went to the gym today and saw that the free weights section was empty and so I bit the bullet and did some weighted squats with a bar. I did sets of 10, at 20, 25 and then 30 kg. the 30kg felt good but I thought that as it was my first time then I would not push it. I finished my exercises and then put the equipment away no problem, but as I bent down to pick up my towel, my quads gave up and I dropped to the floor like a sack of potatoes!!!!
I guess this is normal??!! am loking forward to trying the rest of the exercises. I managed some pretty impressive hanging leg raises though :-) the old girl still has it somewhere!!

Doesn't really sound normal.0

Your quads may have been unusually exhausted, but there are other muscles in your legs that could have kept you upright...0

Oh my that is strange. Kinda scary too, i this week also did my first barbell squats, i only used bar which is 45 lbs and did 4×10. Im going to put weight on today but now im wondering about that. Do you think it was just relleased tension, like your nerves got hold of you doing something new out of your comfort zone and just gave out kinda thing.0

I'm excited you did your first weighted squats. Sorry to hear your quads gave out...
I'm thinking you should find a program to follow. It'll make everything better, and you won't have to do that many! It's more about quality of squats than quantity.
I follow the Stronglifts program and have for about 9 weeks now. There's also New Rules of Lifting for Women and Starting Strength.

There were days during my 2-3rd week where I didn't think my quads would even let me do a squat on my next lifting day...Follow a program, invest in a foam roller.0
