Strength Training-toning

I'm a fairly new member and I"m starting to see results for weight loss and looking for some input.
I have been faithfully doing pool fitness at least 3-5 times a week for oeer a month now, in addition I've been participating in a fitness class one time weekly doing interval training. I have physical conditions that cause me to pick the pool therapy as my starting point for fitness. Next week is my last interval class and I will be doing an at home exercise routine designed by my instructor from the class.

I'm starting to see weight loss and don't like the sagging skin on my biceps, etc. It's my understanding that I cannot do spot training to change this, but does anyone have recommendations on what I might do differently?

My water fitness does do weights, but they are light. Wondering if that's aiding in inches/fate loss, but not toning.

Ideas...recommendations...thoughts???

Great job on your progress my friend! I'd like to know that too! I'm in that same position with the saggy bi's. I do weight training with 10lb. dumbbells and I have recently added 3 new moves but I don't know what they are called. I know I am loosing inches and weight and I feel physically great. But the bat wings are still there....uhggg!!! :grumble:

Its not necessarily that you cannot do spot training to change the areas with looser skin per say, but you can not sport reduce fat accumulation. You can add musculature in specific areas. For instance the difference between the quadriceps/thighs of a sprinter compared to a long distance runner are very different because of the type of physical activity they put on that muscle. Your muscle will cater to whatever activities you stress, but genetics do hold their place in just how defined or large that muscle will get.

Look for a variety of bicep curls that you can do with dumbbells (there are different angles that you can achieve) and possibly try push ups (if full plank style push up is too hard try being on your knees first until your upper body/core is strong enough). Also there are yoga poses that workout really well your arms as well. Such as holding a plank or downward facing dog and a variety of others. Hope this was of a little help!

I have those (shudder) bat wings to. It's not fat, just lose skin. I think it's a matter of age (I'm 67); the only thing I can think of. I've been slowly increasing the weights I use in Shred and body pump and hope there's some undeveloped muscle in there ;-) that will build as I so more triceps weight.

What's shred and body pump? Can you share the program name? Thanks of taking the time to share!
