Frosted Mini Wheats?

So I know its stupid but frosted mini wheats are a big fear food for me. I am recovering from anorexia and working through my list of over 300 fear foods (had an eating disorder since I was 6...that's why so many). Well tonight it was Frosted Mini Wheats time because found box in our cabinet. When I measured out the 21 biscuits it said was serving it was only 47g cereal and serving is 54g. So I added two more biscuits so up to 52 g, but now (after eating) wondering if I overate? Because what if maybe because the cereal was opened it dried out or something and really wt wasn't as accurate as counting? So wondered what you all thought? Weight or serving?

I can't help with the fear part as I find nothing wrong with them, but measure by weight. They didn't dry out or anything, they just aren't perfectly uniform so 21 pieces will not always equal the same weight. IIRC, the nutrition info on the box is figured out based on weight, so that's what I always go with for accuracy.0

You should probably be a little more sensitive to her eating disorder.0 -

OMG "wondering if you overate" and measuring grams is not good for you.
True I don't understand anorexia.
In my opinion, throw out your weight scale and your kitchen scale forever.0 -
Frosted Mini Wheats IS healthy. There is no such thing as healthy vs unhealthy food when it comes to ED recovery. The weight measurement is accurate, there's no way it could dry out and change the energy density. I know it's hard not to be exact with calories but being a few off (not that you are, but just saying this for in the future if this situation comes up again) isn't going to do ANYTHING to you. I promise.0

Easier said than done, but it really is the best possible thing you can do once you are weight stable and able to eat enough intuitively...throwing out your kitchen scale/measuring cups = freedom.0 -
My favorite cereal0

I would encourage you to attempt to not care about going over measurements by a gram or two. It's really not going to make much difference in the long run. And it sounds like you aren't simply anorexic you have orthoxia too. In that you won't touch food you don't know is 100% healthy for you. Fact is a little frosting won't kill you. In fact the sugar is just the thing to pick you up in the morning. In short I encourage you to aim for this goal. One morning do no use the scale simply load up the bowl however much you personally feel like eating and make a point of enjoying it. You need to cultivate a love of food. People talk about eating to live not living to eat. But for me eating is one of the greater joys in life. I do it in moderation now but for you I believe eating has become all business. You need to get back to a point where you can sit down with some food and feel happy afterwards not guilty.
I wish you all the best. I had really dangerous levels of comfort eating before so I know what it's like to have your perception of food skewed. To me your problem is incomprehensible but i guess mine is equally so to you. Genuine good luck sorting yourself out. I know i wasn't easy for me.0 -

I really like this comment. It's obvious you genuinely care and want to help. I agree with the first part of your advice (attempt not to care about going over measurements and that frosting is fine), however it's a myth that people with restrictive eating disorders do not love food. They do. No one loves food more than someone who is starving. It makes you obsess...that's why people with anorexia weigh/measure everything, watch cooking channels, read recipe books, look at "food porn", cook for others, like planning meals, etc. Anorexics do not feel happy after they eat, they feel guilty, ashamed, regretful, and angry. I would go as far as to say some feel sincerely suicidal after eating. I know I have many times. But recovery is possible. You can reach a point where you are happy after you eat, where you don't feel guilt or negative emotions, where you don't measure/weigh food. So don't stop fighting.0
