I am curious which you feel is more effective, cardio or strength training and why?

Effective for what?
It's all down to your objectives.
Personally I'm interested in running performance, so I do a limited amount of resistance training. Someone interested in significant muscle gain isn't going to be running 30-40 miles per week.
In practice what's ideal for most people is a balance of some CV and some resistance training.0 -
It depends what your goals are, if you're trying to increase muscle mass then strength training is the way to go. If you're trying to lose fat then cardio is the most popular option.0

I do both. Cardio to burn more calories and for overall health and weight training to retain the muscle mass, as building muscle while being in a deficit is close to impossible.
First weights and then cardio for me.
