This has simplified my life 100%. I started March 14, 2014. I have not lost any weight, actually gained 2lbs but Im going to say its muscle weight because my clothes fit way better! I actually know what hunger is which makes think twice about snacking. I also do the IIFYM approach and I LOVE IT!

Intermittent fasting is very effective for burning fat, just have to be strong for the 16 hours. Some people can't hack it and don't benefit the full effects of IF.

My tip: Still count calories. I know I can completely negate a 36 hour fast in one sitting. Before dessert. With my ability to pack away a huge amount of food in a short time period, 16:8 would be a pretty unfunny joke on me. But it does work for some.

    Yes I love it!

My eating window is from 12pm-6pm and I incorporate IIFYM with it!

The first week is definitely the hardest, but after you get through it, it becomes so much easier!

    I hope this helps somewhat.

5:2 was too long for me so I did 16/8 instead.

I guess it was a success. It was easy enough to manage. Basically I stopped eating at 10pm at had lunch at 2pm. Or 9pm and 1pm. Very easy to plan when to eat again. And just had lunch and dinner.

Exercise while fasting seemed easy enough, too (mainly lifting or light cardio).

This is where you can eat all the unhealthy crap you want as long as you do it during certain hours, right?

    So ridiculous.

Just do the math. If you lose more than you take in, you'll get thinner. If you lose less than you take in, you'll get fatter.

Your fat cells don't care what time it is when you eat that unhealthy stuff.

You have an incorrect understanding of IF.

Also depending on how 16:8 works out for you, keep in mind that Martin Berkhan of leangains.com (one of the o.g. IF guys) recommends 14:10 for females and 16:8 for males, due to hormone differences IIRC.

Thanks, I think I'll stick with 16/8 as 14/10 is roughly how I'm eating atm.

How many meals would you suggest I eat during the 8 hours? I would eat lunch in work at 10 past 1 when I come home at 4 I would have a small meal, then go for a workout at roughly 6pm(heavy cardio) then when I get back in I have another small meal. Would this be ok? As I would want something before the gym to give me energy and then something after as I get hungry after a heavy workout and something to keep me going till my next eating frame the day after.

    Ya that's fine.
    Is your goal weight loss?
Recall that the math of calories factors in both food eaten and workouts performed --- so eating to make up for cardio is just treading water, calorie-wise. You'd be better off "spending" those calories on resistance training.

Yes, my goal is weight loss, going on holiday in 5 weeks, my goal is to loose 2lbs a week. I've been eating 1200 calories a day, I know people say that's low but it's only for the short term.

We sound very similar in our goals and how we are eating. I am currently on my first week of trying the 16/8 IF, and am eating around 1200 cals a day. How has it been working for you so far? Have you had any success?
