An American Marshmallow in Japan

Hello, everyone! I am an ALT in Japan, and I'm working on losing weight. But, before anyone thinks that I'll lose a lot on the Japanese diet: DON'T. The traditional Japanese diet, perhaps, would have helped me lose weight, but I have in fact GAINED since I came here! Almost EVERYTHING is fried or breaded in convenience stores, and where I lived previously had expensive fruits and vegetables (Fruit, in general, is expensive in Japan anyway). I had gotten down from 230lbs to 195, but after one year in Japan, I've ballooned back up to about 220. A lot of the food I receive in school lunches is fried, high calorie stuff (lunches average 800-1000 calories on a daily basis), with a large amount of rice and milk. Add that to the depression I suffered prior to my move to a new prefecture a few days ago, and you're left with a sad-sack of a couch potato!

Now that I have moved to a new prefecture, one where walking and biking is enjoyable and life is a bit more convenient and familiar, I'm more than ready to restart! I already feel far more cheerful about things in this new town. I'll be tracking my calories and bumping up my activity! Please wish me luck on my journey!
