Ok, we're having a Mother's Day lunch tomorrow at a local Chinese/American place. I know there won't be many (if any) really good choices on the american portion of the menu. Anyone got any ideas how I can enjoy lunch without totally blowing it for the day????

I guess won ton soup, stir fry with white rice ( they don't have brown at most of those places) and sometimes they have sugar free pie or jello or something like that0

Drink tons of water prior to going to the event, drink tons of water at the event, and take 1/2 of what you know you want to eat.
Maybe run there too???
Seriously, just promise use you are going to check in with us and that should help!

fill up on egg droup soup before the meal lol seriously though, 1 cup=about 120 cals
then order steamed veggies
they say stay away from rice, but i eat that with it, just make sure i try to eat soup and veggies first and then limit myself to 1/2 c rice
for desert, go for the fruit :flowerforyou:

http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/eatingout/a/chineserest.htm (note that this one's talking about low carb eating at chinese rest, so they would frown on carbs, which saying what foods to avoid, but it also list some other good tips)
i know that your place is a local place, which wouldn't be listed but they will help you "prep" for your visit and help you log afterwards:flowerforyou:0 -
We went to a wonderful Chinese restaurant for dinner tonight with our family. hate going out on mother's day..... too many mothers!
So, we ordered dishes that were low on sugar like Broccoli and Beef, Kung Pao Chicken; one sugary dish for the kids General Tao's Chicken; and two orders of lo mein, one with shrimp and one with beef.
I had probably a cup and a half of lo mein, and the rest was broccoli, beef, chicken, shrimp and peanuts. And lots of green tea.
Didn't add up tooo badly. I'd stay away from the rice though -- unless you can get brown rice. It shoots that glucose level up so quick.0 -
OHH! I love Chinese food. I'm Chinese as a matter of fact.
Don't worry there's a way out of this!
Try the veggie wonton soup and steamed (brown if they have) rice with steamed veggies!
I think steamed shrimp & veggies probably is the lowest-cal main dish.
Stay away from fried rice and egg rolls!!
oh and the fortune cookies are ok. really lil fat and reasonable calories :P
eat the orange slices if they come with the cookies!

When I know I'm going to dinner somewhere that it will be hard to keep under my calories, I try to "earn" extra calories that day by exercising more so I don't have to worry so much about going over.0
