Help with fiber...

Hello,

I was wondering what you guys either eat or take to consume more fiber. Foods for me haven't really made much of a difference and pills I have taken that are OTC just make my stomach cramp. Open to new ideas...

Thanks!

Lettuce! I credit the lettuce. But other fresh produce and water help, too. Exercise, too! :)

Raspberries. I love raspberries, and they're pretty high in fiber, among other things.

What is it you're trying to accomplish? Are you trying to meet your fiber recommendation? Or have a good, regularly occurring poop?

Please be careful. Fiber can be deadly. You could get an intestinal blockage. Cramps, bloating, gas, diarrhea or an intestinal blockage. Nuts, seeds, peas, corn, beans, whole grains, fruit, should be taken in limited quantities and always with plenty of oil to lubricate and plenty of refined starch to buffer. I don't eat nuts or seeds. I got an intestinal blockage in 1986 from nuts. If those fiber supplements gave you cramps, take it as a warning. Some people have intestines of steel. I do not. If fiber supplements cause you cramping, a high fiber diet will also. The fiber least likely to cause problems: vegetables without skins such as lettuce and fruit without skins such as bananas. The soft seeds in tomatoes and cucumbers are less likely to cause trouble than hard seeds. I always make sure I get plenty of acids like lemon juice and tomato juice, which aids digestion. I nearly died from that intestinal blockage at age 33 because I refused surgery and had to tough it out for several painful weeks. Many people swear by fiber. But even Dr. Oz admits to intestinal gas issues!

it was an issue for me as well. In the end, for me, more vegetabls and fruits, LESS grains and a magnesium supplement resolved it. You'll need to find what works for you. But in general: legumes, vegetabls, fruits and whole unrefined grains.

Red beans and rice! This recipe is very good: http://www.slenderkitchen.com/sunday-slow-cooker-red-beans-and-rice/ and when I eat with some avocado, it clocks in around 27g of fiber per serving. Pretty good, I think.

I cheat, eat Slimming world's scan bran.... its like 85% fibre and tastes like MDF and is quite cheap.

I also sprinkle some psyllium husk in my morning protein shake and fine scotish oats which is a nice big dose of easy fibre.
